fai0607
Hey guys, My main hookah supplier is hookah-shiha, and for weeks I've noticed that ANY of their quicklights were out of stock. Figuring this was odd, I went to the live help and it seems that they will no longer ship QLs due to the change of higher threat level on the Hazmat. Meaning, if I wanted those QLs, I'd have to pay $150 for it to be shipped in a very special way. As a college student, we are NOT allowed to have charcoal burners and do not have stove tops, so naturals are a non-option. I find this really unfortunate since getting off campus is rough considering the lack of reliable public transportation and I have no car at the moment. I did get my QLs, though. Does anyone know if this apparent new change is only affecting H-S? I'm now looking for another vendor who carries QLs.

Eddie_H
Seems like all the other suppliers I use are unaffected. Must be a Hookah-Shisha thing. A higher threat level on the Hazmat? What does that even mean? Just buy from someone else, tons of other suppliers online, it's not like a girlfriend, your free to bounce around :)

king_lunchb0x
hmm well I would hit up another vendor... maybe buying a few extra boxes just in case it spreads.
mushrat
Shipping companies as well as the usps I believe charge extra for shipping hazardous materials. The chemicals in quick lights is essentially gunpowder, (sulfur , charcoal, saltpeter, etc) so it is at least possible that some shipping companies would consider these to be dangerous, especially if there are tightening hazmat rules. The fact that no other company seems to be following suit makes it rather odd. Either they are ahead of the curve or misinturpeting something. I guess we will find out. Have yu considered a creme brulee torch and a pot for starting naturals?
Stuie
Sounds like a carrier thing. H-S has always started following new laws handed down about hookah products faster than anyone else. When Texas upped the in-state non-cigarette tax, they started charging more to Texans months before Social Smoke and a year before TH. Sucks but I understand it, if that's the new shipping law than that's it.

I wonder how this will affect QLs sales and if other companies would take suit. Also thanks for the info and link that other vendors carry QLs. I buy in bulk (because $14 dollars in shipping so I want to make it worth it) so I usually stick to one vendor.
Stuie
Hot plates are rough on naturals, but they are PERFECT for Japanese Style coals. On medieum heat takes around 3-5 minutes.
Chreees
Maybe it's just a Texas thing, they can't ship QLs anymore? I dunno. I've heard too many people tear up their hot plates with naturals. If it's all you can use, then try it out.
Cloud-Hookah
Its not really a new law or anything, UPS has never allowed standard shipment of flammable materials. They probably just had in incident at UPS or someone complained etc and now they have to be sticklers. We haven't had any problems with this and I doubt other vendors will stop sales on QL anytime soon
fineout
why can you have a hot plate but not a coil burner?

We haven't had any problems with this and I doubt other vendors will stop sales on QL anytime soon Every time I go to ship a package (Texas), I'm always asked if there are any batteries, coals, etc... I order batteries online and save a bunch of money that way; I hope this doesn't catch on. I can see H-S following the rules very strictly, the owner is a very interesting person and told me I could not take any pictures of the warehouse or walk past the office. Something about being afraid of being copied or shut down I guess.
fai0607
Hot plates are rough on naturals, but they are PERFECT for Japanese Style coals. On medieum heat takes around 3-5 minutes. Would they work for Exotica easy-lite coals? why can you have a hot plate but not a coil burner? To boil water haha. Coil burners are seen as fire hazards. Maybe it's just a Texas thing, they can't ship QLs anymore? I dunno. I've heard too many people tear up their hot plates with naturals. If it's all you can use, then try it out. Apparently the japanese coals are discontinued from H-S, which is why I'm asking about the easy-lites. Definitely going to find another vendor when it comes to my heating needs now after this bulk purchase.
Stuie
Looks like it's a DOT reclassification. They way they word it, anything with an excellerating agent in it (Quicklight and Japanese) are now considered Hazardous. Talked with Local postmaster (on an unrelated issue) and brought it up. I wondered why the post office started asking about lighters and LI batteries in the package when shipping boxes.
Stuie
I will be in Austin around Thanksgiving, so I may work on a deal for some cheap Japs, let you know in the next few days. I can ship without fear.

fai0607
DOT report was apprently released Last Friday. UPS and FedEx have already updated their shipping restrictions as of last night. What will this mean for QLs and Japs, then? Off the online market for good? I can't possibly see it being profitable online with the new regulations. fai0607
Does this apply to all easy-lites btw or just Japanese coals (If there is a difference?) Cause if that's the case I'm going to start stocking myself.
cotsi95
Make sure that if you go with a jap or natural coal you get a hot plate that has rings and not the flat top ones. A flat top plate will not allow airflow around the coal and it will not light! I had a golden canary on one on high for 30 minutes and it had no change. As for coals I HIGHLY recommend Golden Canaries and if you can get to Denver there is a shop that sells them for 10$ a box. That is where I stock up. Cloud-Hookah
We don't have any problems shipping quick lights, but only carry three kings and golden river right now. (still growing inventory) What kind of quick lights do you use?
