Lyude
Hi, I've only been doing hookah for a few months now, so I'm still learning tidbits here and there, and I just learned of the existence of a purge valve on my hookah. To my unpleasant surprise however, I learned that the ball bearing on my valve has gotten really badly stuck. I can't seem to get a screwdriver or anything between the bearing and the valve itself to pull it out. I've also tried hot water but that doesn't seem to do anything ether. This is what it looks like at the moment:
Coleman
bend a wire hanger, place the purge valve face down in a cup and use a rubber mallet or hammer
Skoozle
You can try to heat it up with a lighter (hotter than hot water) which will cause the metal (valve and ball) to expand. If you can get to the back side of the valve, you can try to push it out with a coat hanger or some other type of poking instrument. If that doesn't work, heat it up again then touch an ice cube to the ball to get it to shrink while the valve stays hot and expanded. this might give enough clearance to release the ball. The purge valve should unscrew from the stem. It might be easier to work with that way or you could just replace it if you can find a matching part. I have had to grind a ball out of a purge valve before with a dremel tool. This would be a last resort. If you go this route, clear your schedule for an afternoon; you'll be grinding for a while. Pavo21
if and when i have the issue i just get some vegi oil or something and let it soak in then get a knife and pry it out
mushrat
hat looks like a MYA, so the purge valve itself should unscrew from the stem. Use a pair of pliers to unscrew the whole valve, then you can use a nail or something to knock the ball out from behind. Then id contact MYA for a new purge valve if yours is impacted. Coyote
I agree with Mush. When that happens with tapered valves the best option (that i had found) is to use a hanger or something to push it out from behind.
antouwan
torch on the exterior of the valve. hit it for a couple minutes with that and the ball should fall out. the ice cube probably won't be necesarry but may also help. replace with plastic bb to avoid such an occurance in the future. If it is a Mya, which it looks like, I would avoid this method as those valves are plastic. I'd say do as Mush says and unscrew the valve and pop the bearing out. HookahJulio
I use wd40 with purge valve issues. It works.

Travis
I'm 99.999% sure that MYA doesn't use plastic purge valves unless you have a very very low end Econo.

The cap that screws onto the valve isn't plastic but the valve itself is. I have a Mya paragon and a petite both have plastic valves.

Chreees
When I had to work on the purge valve on my Mya QT back in the day, I remember the stem part feeling pretty cheap when I had unscrewed it from the heart and removed the cap (which does seem to be metal). Seems like it wouldn't hurt them to just go ahead and make that little part metal as well...
