How To Get Soap Taste Out Of Hookah Stem?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. New here, but not new to hookah.

Recently, this past weekend, I washed my hookah as I usually do, but this time [and the first time I've ever done it] I used a bit of dish soap on the brush to do a really deep clean.

Unfortunately now my MYA tastes like soap, no matter what I smoke. It's been 3 sessions [including the one I'm currently smoking] and there's still a soapy taste. Turns the AF Honey I'm smoking into a plastic-y taste.

I've tried thoroughly rinsing with water and rebrushing, but it hasn't helped.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this soapy taste from my hookah? And no, I'm not going to throw it out or anything like that.

Thanks

Try some lemon juice and hot water

This could work, another option that might work out is PBW(powdered Brewery Wash), it is used for cleaning brewing equipment, my girlfirend's dad uses it to clean his hookahs as well..

Step 1: Fill your bathtub with hot water, baking soda, and lemon juice. Step 2: Let the hookah soak in it. Step 3: If you have a hookah stem brush, brush the stem thoroughly. If not, try to use something else, such as pipe cleaners. You can combine multiples to fit the gauge of the stem. Also be sure to use pipe cleaners on the purge valve port and hose port.

If you can't find PBW, Oxiclean FREE (Make sure it's "free", i.e. perfume free, or you can get the generic sun oxygen cleaner from walmart) works quite well. Also BLC (Beer Line Cleaner) if you can't find either of those, typically restaurant supply places and Cash N Carry type stores have them. They all work best in ~160 degree water, let soak for 30 mins then rinse. You can soak overnight but if you have hard water you may need to rinse with hot water + a teaspoon or two of vinegar. Cheers!

There are lots of nooks and crannies you could still have soap. I'd unscrew all the ports and purge valve and just fill the sink with water and hold the stem under the water and agitate in. See if the water sudses up, if so there is soap still in it. replete until no more suds. :)
