mattarios2
Here is a link, if you search google there is talk about it everywhere. Pulled from the article: "A similar bill made it all the way to former Gov. Schwarzenegger's desk in 2007 before it was vetoed, but Dickinson is confident it will pass this time." http://www.ksbw.com/news/central-california/california-bill-would-ban-online-tobacco-sales/-/5737870/23916904/-/qcvovt/-/index.html Such bs if it passes ... Legatus
I can see why they would do this. Most tobacco retailers barely have any method of confirming the age of the person who is purchasing tobacco, but there has to be a way to get around that besides just banning it. It's the most annoying way to resolve problems. The whole "punish the many for the sins of the few" mentality is outrageous.

Skoozle
Well, when you think about it, asking parents to be responsible for their children is a bit extreme. I mean who has time to keep track of their credit cards or know whether or not their kids smell like an ash tray; much less teach their kids to make responsible, informed decisions. Thankfully, the government is here to look after our children.

â€On
So what, if those places close, others will open in their place, and maybe John can stop selling pet related gifts and focus on his real passion: the adult webcam industry. Or tobacco. Whatever.
gakouri
Yeah I'm dealing with this almost every day.. i think the FDA is gonna make this a nationwide movement. As a payment processor, our banks won't permit us to touch those accounts any more. We've lost a lot of business because of this.. but you know the retailers are happy about it

Cloud-Hookah
If this goes through, say goodbye to Tangiers. I don't know any local retailers that sell it. Its mostly all online. it will only be a short time before other states follow or it becomes a national law, so vendors won't be up for very long
mattarios2
Well I would think distributing it ie Eric sending it to other vendors in Cali and other states is ok. I think it is only when it is in the purchasing act like retail level that it potentially will be banned in Cali. It would be an issue for vendors in Cali but I don't think distributors in Cali would face the same issues. So I don't think Tang would be an issue other than vendors that currently sell at the retail level within Cali.

Its mostly all online. it will only be a short time before other states follow or it becomes a national law, so vendors won't be up for very long 1: I wouldn't say goodbye to anything. People who like Tangiers are like junkies for it. Where there is an addiction, people will find a way to fulfill it. The completely failed in every way "war on drugs" is proof of this. And before that, prohibition. America loves it's religion and loves banning "all the sinful things", but more than that, America loves it's vices. If you honestly think the tobacco industry in any way will suffer, you haven't been paying attention for the last hundred years. The Rockefellers managed to turn their image from "we kill people who complain, we are the boogeyman" to "we are wealthy benefactors who just love to spread our good fortune to others who are less fortunate" in less than a decade, you don't think the big tobacco companies can't figure out how to make their image loveable? Please. If Eric throws in the towel, someone else will buy the rights and recipes and techniques and such, and just start making and selling it somewhere else. California is only one state. 2: You want to see what national law is like? Come to Canada. It's not illegal, it's just taxed so highly that it's cost prohibitive. They won't ban tobacco, they'll just make it so for all the people who love it, they will make a pretty penny off of them. And you know what? People will still continue to just order from elsewhere and navigate the tobacco laws loopholes so that they can still (in an affordable manner) enjoy what they love. But you know what? The age of puritans is going to end, it's only a matter of time.

Isn't it like 300% or something?? If you are no longer able to buy online from Cali, then you are really fucked because you have to pay the tax if you order from the Texas sites. With how conservative Texas is, I'm really surprised they passed a law that is so similar to what Canada and the UK are doing. Not to mention this law sets a very dangerous precedent for other laws to follow... And could easily work its way up to the federal level. Just look at cigarettes.
