Skimo
Ok so usually I get alot of flavor with my Romman Double Apple but after not smoking for a couple months and going back I cant seem to get any flavors, especially with my double apple. I heard so many people say Romman Peach was really good but I cant even taste it, all I get is smoke with no flavor. Im using a Qt with foil and Golden Quicklights, any suggestions on how to set everything up?
Erica
I have a QT and once in a while it like malfunctions or something, and I get horrible smoke sessions. perhaps the water level? Do you prefer the Golden Quick lights to the Jap coals?
Skimo
never used jap coals, only scalli's natruals and golden quicklights, i smoke 3 bowls all with no flavor lol, it was kind of a let down since i havnt smoked in awhile. the water is about 1 inch from the top of the big base part
Erica
hmm.. That seems like a lot of water to me. If Im thinking what you are saying. I have never tried Romman Tobacco, have you tried changing the tobacco? YOu should really invest in some jap coals too.
Skimo
yeah ive had havana but it was off and on, lol for some reason i can never get the full flavor out of shisha, and how much water do u put in your qt? does the water really effect the taste? does the holes in the foil matter? im runnin out of things to try lol, i tried small holes then larger holes, neither helped so im guessin the foil doesnt really play a part in my problem
Erica
To be debated, but this is where I like my water for my QT. But I did getmine when they first came out so perhaps the stem is a differnt size?

Erica
Maybe you are using too much heat?

Oggie505
try another brand, might be used to the romman or others u smoke
Erica
Try putting mint at the bottom of the bowl and something else on top of it. I used to HATE mint. I found when the mint is on the bottom it gives your thoat a nice icy feeling but you dont taste it. You onyl taste the flavor you have on top. Shop favorites are Watermelon mint, Strawberry mint, mint cappicinno, Mint rose, Mint Apple
Skimo
nice ill have to try that, so how much does heat effect the flavor? i thought the only thing it effected was if it was harsh or not, i use 2 goldens sometimes, others i use 1 1/2. also does the bowl really effect it? cause i used to have a nice clay bowl that was glazed all over and i could get the flavor good then, so would switchin it over to the mya bowl matter? Blue Lantern
i smoked romman double apple yesterday. I applied enough heat but the flavor tended to be very heavy on the star anise. Skimo, is this the flavor you got in your past experiences with Double Apple?

I guess because the tobacco is too hot/ I don't really know, that is jsut what I have noticed

aronparsons
On a standard Mya bowl, I've found 1.5 coals (3 Kings quicklights, 33mm) to be the perfect amount to start out with. This configuration works with Al Amir, Havana, Fumari, Al Fakher and Nakhla; I'm guessing Romman should fit into that mix pretty well for the amount of heat required. Also, just as a standard question, everything is clean after your smoking hiatus (pipe, vase, bowl, hose)?
