Trumpet Base Questions.

Recommended Posts

I'm contemplating the purchase of a trumpet base in the near future and have questions for those who own them. 1. With a tight fitting grommet if you have to rock the stem to release the seal do you notice any damage to the base or stem? 2. Are they easy to clean? I figure base brushes would be more difficult to scrub them. 3. Are they sturdy and not easily toppled?

I'm nuts about trumpet vases; mostly because of your #3?

1. I use the soft silicon gaskets, so it's not too hard to get the stem out, but the stem usually bangs the inside of the vase unless I am really careful.  I haven't had any damage.

2. I once pushed a base brush into the bottom of a vase trying to get the corners.  The brush buckled and bent in the middle so it's bent at about a 30 degree angle.  It worked out perfectly and that's the base brush I use all the time now.  I'll bend the next one when this one wears out.  Bend your base brush, you'll be fine

3. trumpet vases are the most stable vase available because they dont narrow down to a cmall diameter foot like Jumbos, Genies and (to a lesser extent) bells.  Trumpet vases will typically have a 7" diameter foot print where the other vases have a 4-5" footprint.  This is why I love them.  They are very stable.

Thinking about getting a nice one soon?

1. I too use the soft silicone gaskets. Works well and I have no issues. 2. Yeah, just as easy as any other vase. Then again, I don't really ever use brushes on mine; just rinse out the base after every session. 3. They're very sturdy; do not topple easily. I love mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes skoozle, i'm thinking about getting a boho one thats supposed to be available soonish. I like a tight fit with my grommet/gasket like so tight i need water to get them in since i need to pick them up by the stem since i worry about knocking coals off grabbing by the base.

Where do i get silicone gaskets? I need one but i want one thats thick and creates a tight fit. I hate when the stem wobbles in the base. I brush mine out because they get kind of gross after awhile so i use lemon juice to get the ghosting out and scrub any discolorations out.

Yeah, me too. I usually don't like the idea of paying $100+ for a vase, but I might in this case.

I get the gaskets locally. I don't know where to get them online. In fact, I think Chreees might be using ones he got from me.

Yep. I have one on all three of my shanks, and it allows me to easily use any shank on any base. So easy. Thanks again for sending them to me! :) In my opinion, it's the end all, be all gasket.

Yep I use them ribbed silicone gaskets on my trump as well. What is this trumpet you speak of that may be coming out soon? I'm all over that, my Prince Of The Road needs a proper home, and I think a trumpet would be perfect for it.

The ribbed silicone gaskets (Mya maybe?) can be bought from Santino for $2

I know it's not a trumpet, but Kasbah has a 12" BJ teardrop on ebay right now...
