helloiloveyou
Okay to make this short.. i got my.hands on a hookah for 2 days. I want to use it before i give it away. Now i have everything needed except it didnt come with the coal. I have no way to get some at the moment and all i have is 100% all natural mesquite lump charcoal. Ive heard good stuff about this specific type of substitute but I am still worried about the carbon monoxide posioning and is hesistant on using the charcoal. Can you guys let me know if i could use it or not? Again, im only gonna be using this coal and the hookah for only 2 days. (Sidenote: on the bag it says best of the west:the same brand everybody says is good: but on the bag itself it says "carbon monoxide hazard, dont burn inside or it will kill you)... im not sure if theyre just saying that for precaution, since everybody else says this is a good brand.. but IDK Please help! Hassouni
It should work. In the Middle East everyone uses wood coals - not mesquite, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. I suppose it might have some flavor, but as long as it's fully lit it shouldn't be any more toxic than otherwise.
wek-sos
I cook with mesquite, it gives the meat a sweet, light woody taste. I'm not sure about the lump charcoal but I doubt it will kill you. Might taste a little funny, just stay well hydrated and ventilate the area so you don't get carbon monoxide poisoning.

That pretty much summed it up. Good luck!
Cloud-Hookah
I guess if you are dead set on using it, make sure to smoke it outside. mesquite are very smoky (on purpose to add the smoky flavor) and will probably give a bad flavor to the tobacco
kathleenmelissa
I still often use it. I think there is no problem Edited July 31, 2020 by kathleenmelissa
