I would be interested if they made it in a raw aluminum finish and cut the price in half. I don't need one stem for every flavor, especially not with such a plain design.

For that price, I would rather buy one of the Brazil Hookahs.

I don't exactly like the look but I'm excited to try it out. I'm sure I can sell it if I don't like it rather easily. I wanted one with a slimmer design. Stuie, what would be deadly? Is smoking from an anodized pipe going to kill me? I'm sure the inside is surgical grade without paint.

I also agree the price is fucking retarded but I assume the materials are more so expensive than the materials used on pipes currently so I'm biting the bullet there. Maybe the price will drop some day. Maybe not. Who knows. Edited by Codyb88

i dont understand this "surgical" grade materials? Do these companies just apply these terms as marketing strategies? Like "aircraft" aluminum or "space grade" metals, "super" fruits? What makes this material "surgical"? Sounds likes a great way just to increase the price to associate a material with a respected industry.

I am surprised the "Challenger" hookah is not made of "space grade" metals

But really. What is aircraft aluminum? 6061 aluminum, same thing my bike is made out of. Surgical metal? Taken from Wikipedia: "There is no formal definition on what constitutes a 'surgical stainless steel', so product manufacturers and distributors may apply the term to refer to any grade of corrosion resistant steel." 440 is considered "surgical" and my Benchmade knife is made from 440 stainless steel... anyone need surgery? Anyone want to see the rust on my Benchmade before you buy a "surgical grade" hookah?

The process of anodizing color onto metal mostly aluminum since it works better, but other metals do take it well. The chemical process makes a great looking product, but chemical residues stay on the color in the process. Heating around the bowl adapter will release these chemicals. Basically the release is somewhere on the level of toxicity on chlorine gas. I can't remember the specifics. I heard all this at a lecture at University of Texas when I was visiting over a decade ago. That has just stuck in my mind. I am sure if I had to do the research i could pull up papers and reports that verify this. Just don't have the time.

don't recall but coconut coals get up to 600+ degrees i believe there is probably enough transference in heat to get the process started. But like I said this is only if it's anodized. I have never trusted colored hookahs. I am still on the fence about electroplating...like the black KMs My wife has one but I am just weary about them. I just play it safe. Plus I don't like supporting SB.

Why is everything after post #5 in bold?

http://www.superiormetals.us/faq-is-anodizing-safe.htm

http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=dailytip&dbid=66

http://www.anodizing.org/Anodizing/benefits.html

to sum it up:

"An anodized finish is chemically stable, will not decompose; is non-toxic; and is heat-resistant to the melting point of aluminum (1,221 degrees F.)"

http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/18104-at-what-temprature-does-shisha-coal-burn/?p=209036

461C = 862F and that is peak coal temperature. Transferred to the bowl, grommet, then the stem, much less. I can take off a bowl painfully with my bare hands when hot, and my brass stems I can touch the tray rest without feeling any discomfort.

But that is brass, which has roughly 1/3rd the thermal conductivity of aluminum. So really, the brass hookah would stay hotter at the bowl port, while the aluminum hookah would dissipate the heat throughout the stem.

So is this of any concern? Yes and no. If you have enough heat on the bowl to melt your aluminum foil, obviously it's not going to be good for you. But since you have variables like a clay bowl, rubber grommet, and shisha to absorb some of the heat, you should theoretically never get the pipe hot enough to cause any damage.

I never had problems with my KM Black Shareef (painted bowl port) but like Stuie said, I don't trust colored pipe, and I won't be supporting SB.

But all of this information has the potential of being incorrect depending on what anodize SB uses, the specific aluminum used to make the pipe, etc...

Well Wek-sos has corrected me. Thanks for that, Glad the truth and final word is out there now. Now I know for sure. I still distrust color stems and SB though. Give me a fully cast stem in natural color any day!

Something in Hass's sig may be messed up code wise. Mine was messed up and caused all that a while back.

If you bought it and it's your style then I say go for it. Personally, I'm not into it. I can't tell from the pics posted but it looks like it has a common chamber for the hose and purge. Also, the hose port itself looks oddly shaped and I question how well a hose will stay in.
All that aside, a single bowl of nakhla cardamom will ghost that motherfucker like you wouldn't believe!
Truly a real mans tobacco.

I actually just trolled the personal facebook page for SB (not a like page, a person's account who distributes). They had posted a picture of their crate of these and I stated my "political" opinion of "why would anyone buy this junk? Why would anyone support your business when you sue all the competition off the market with petty flavor name patents such as guava"(reference tangiers guava now being named guajava). He removed my post and messaged me asking why I would post this on an unrelated matter, and we can privately discuss legal matters if I wish. I said "what, did I lie?! Shit or get off the pot" . I get too pissy over politics.

They're definitely not common. They are traditional chambers, else I wouldn't have purchased one.

I like them making hookahs in the US, but those aren't really anything special to me. A step up from their usual gaudy/ugly dragon/ skull monstrosities.
