Buying Tobacco overseas.

Recommended Posts

Dear All,[Espcially Tangiers, the king amoungst Shisha users!]I was almost at the point of pressing 'order' for some tangiers and other tobacco from hookahcompany this morning, when, one of my nosey collegues suggested that, if, Customs should happen upon my parcel of goodies one of two things might happen :-1. The could sieze the bloody lot and spank me for a tax payment2. They could sieze the tobacco only and destroy it?Here's an interesting link.UK Tax-a-ThonOpinions please!JD

Well I can only give you my experiences which are in Australia. Customs opened my package which contained about 880g of tobacco and they didn't seize any or tax any. Now considering that Australia has the toughest customs in the world, in order to save the damn koalas, I would assume you wouldn't have too many problems. As long as you aren't planning on ordering 5 kilos or something.

Thanks Persian!I can't comment on the strength of Australian Customs, however the UK Customs wouldn't want to miss a trick in the collecting of Tax.I think the only way i am going to get my hands on Tangiers is going to be fly to the US. Get some. Return! This incidently is deemed 'perfectly legal'... British Legal system, gotta love it.PS :- Where is Tangiers Lounge?JD

To be Honest, it's a little of both. Obviously one want's to try Tangiers. And the Funnel bowl! The other is that it's a total lottery as to weather your package will 'make it through' the UK Customs.Example : (From experience) Lady i know orders some kinda of classic shoes from eBay. Customs seize the package and write to her asking for another £75 in taxes. Just so not funny. And I,like most, can't afford to throw money away! LOL] Easily available UK Tobacco's :-Nahkla <-- Damn Expensive.El BasAl waha. High Life <-- Good, but damn pricy.JD
yea just fly out, meet the man and buy 6 kilos of his shisha [IMG]smileys/smiley36.gif" align="middle" /> that should hold you over for a while.
This was the plan :PHowever at £2,260 for a return flight from London to LAX.. It's just a tad out of my price range :PJD
I have no idea...American laws confuse me...imagine what UK laws would do, being in a different language and everything?   [img]smileys/smiley36.gif" align="middle" />
Thanks Tang I think the basic thing is : "Do it at your own risk"Which, when translated into Johnny means : "Not bloody likely"So I'll shall wait until one of our brothers visits the uk and arrange to send them some cash and bring me over the Tangiers goodies JD

In Sweden most packages go through the customs without any trouble as long as it has "happy birthday" "gift" or something like that written on it.You could ask them if they are willing to package your shipment discrete(sp?) and with something written on it making it look like a gift rather than something you bought. You only pay tax on things you buy.

Yeah, that's fine and that works...but when shippers start to develop a pattern of "HookahBusiness" sending gifts through points of customs repeatedly, they get suspicious. Thats why HookahCompany had to start declaring everything into Canada. Canada threatened George with hefty fines.
