azcoyote
Someone who viewed it told the seller that the person on the jug was the president in persia in 1906. I know next to nothing about the Persian goverment in 1906. Can anyone here identify this person? Persian history expert? Any information welcome please..It was purchased in SA. Maybe that's where the hoses came from. A lot of work went into those, for sure.

Sonthert
I love you, AZ, but I hate that hookah. The stem looks from that picture to be a Northern Syrian/Turkish stem, very low quality. They sell the 1.5m tall variety for $4 US in Damascus. The jar is a modern one, Egyptian and cheap. Can you get out of this?

It is still being manufactured there and is available online for $20. And since this is NOT Damascus I can probably unload the whole package locally, if I'm not thrilled when it gets here. We'll see. Sonthert
I have several Egyptian jars like that. They may be copies of that one, but I would be more inclined to believe that its a scam. Heres the jar on my hookah (Same guy)This is not working at all. Sorry I can't post a: There it is!

PersianPride
The person on the glass is Nassered Din Shah a mostly ineffectual leader who lost a lot of persian influence and land to the European powers namely Russia and Britain in the 19th century. Despite being a poor leader you find him on a lot of glass and ceramic decoration because he was extremely fond of photograph portraits and had his picture taken 100s of times. Hence he is one of the few pre-modern shahs whos depiction can be accurately placed on items like your wonderful hookah.
Hookahmania
:x shit, I want a base with my grill on it, get that bitch custom. i like cyber punk. so it would have to be very modern, beyond modern with a bowl that heats like a nebulizer, did i spell that right, oh well, even thoug i like my old style egypt hookah. To your eyes, PP, does this stem look like a cheap Turkish or Syrian piece of crap as Tangiers believes or a genuine Persian? How can I tell the difference when I get it in my hot little hands? As I think you also stated the base is definately 100% Persian. Nassered Din Shah glassware and ceramics are a very persian concept and I have never seen it done by arabs and frankly I don't see a reason why they would reproduce images of Persian monarchy. The stem as I said I am not an antique or nargile expert but from my hookah memories in Iran the stem is either wood or brass and not stainless steel or silver which is more to the liking of arabs. So you have that going for you but if you are really worried you can always drag it into an antigue shop and have a chat about it with the owner. Maybe buy something first to loosen his tongue And personally, from what I can see from four pictures, I think it looks fairly cool even if it fake I think it still worth $72 dollars. I suggest you learn a little about Nassered Din Shah esspecially how he was assassinated it will make your hookah a real conversation piece. azcoyote
It's finally here. Generally pleased with the purchase. Tight pipe with no leaks, but also have a few issues. The stem will only support a bowl that fits the ferrule on top. So all my eqyptian bowls are going to be useless on this. I think a syrian bowl will work. It came with a never used, terra cotta bowl that is almost flat on top with very little space for tobacco. I think this is for tombek smoking. Package included two 250 gram unopened packets of shisha - one with a manufacture date of 1990. It was made in India by I.T.C. limited. The other looks about as old and is from Egypt and shows two red apples. I can still smell it, and it's not anise! Has anyone here smoked 16 year old shisha? Also got two hoses and some nice heavy brass tongs whose ends look like peacock heads. cool tongs. There's an unopened box of 60 "Made in Japan" coals in a black cardboard box. There's an image of a woman's face in chador on the box. I guess sex sells no matter how much you cover it up. I just line the bowl with foil and place a few grams of Al Amir Pomeganite with one jap style coal on screen. Used a mya hose instead of the old ones - who knows where they've been. The pipe smokes well and will have a place in my limited rotation.
Joseph
I thought tomback bowls were huge, and hold something like 250 grams, because with the coal right on the tobacco, it would burn super fast, so the bowl needs to be huge.

PersianPride
Well the thing that defines the Iranian tombek head is that it should have a wire 'fence' running along the outside of the bowl. That way you can stake lots of shredded tobacco on top of itself. It could be a tombek bowl with the fence removed. Also bro you just have to post the pictures of the woman with the chador.
