Chreees
Maybe third time's the charm... Okay, many of you know how we lost our 8-months old pup, Yeti, to parvo. It was devastating. When I told the lady I got her from, she offered us a 3-year old Great Pyrenees named Aspen. She was great for a few days, until she attacked our other dog, Nora. Had to take her back. So I went on a search to find another... Came across on the national Great Pyr website that there's a breeder/rescue in Lebanon, TN. Named McJac Farm. Seemed legit enough. Sent an email, received a response pretty quick, the next day. She offered us 3-year old Morag (we have since renamed her Margo, since everyone couldn't remember Morag, and it's not like she knew her name anyway, which is sad), AKC-registered, up-to-date on shots and heartworm preventive, she said. She worked with me on the adoption fee, since we want to spay her, and because she's 3. $200. So we went to meet her, and fell in love. But the conditions were not what my wife and I are used to seeing. It was an outdoor kennel setup, where each dog had a small area to walk around, but they could go into the house part to get out of the weather. Concrete for the outside part where the peed and pooped. Dogs were dirty, but hey, it had been raining all day, so... Still, not our type of ideal conditions. We were shown Morag's parents, and the other 6-7 dogs were her littermates, so they were all 3 years old as well. There was also a 13 months old that didn't seem related. One rescue in the front yard guarding some goats. It was weird, but we loved Morag/Margo. She was literally attached to my hip from the moment I said hi and petted her. Anyway, did the paperwork, got her AKC papers and what I thought were vet papers. Bring her home, and she doesn't know her name, any commands, anything. But she's a sweetheart. To get her groomed, we have to have proof of rabies shot. Understandable. Upon further inspection of the vet papers, I see everything is handwritten on some form of vet paper. Called the vet listed and she informs me they have no record of her, but she knows the lady and knows her Pyrs. Okay... Called the lady at McJac Farm and she says she does all the shots herself, but doesn't bother with rabies because they "aren't around other dogs." WTF?? So my wife takes her to our vet to get her rabies shot... turns out she's heartworm positive. I called the lady and was PISSED. I asked for my adoption fee of $200 back, to help cover the $600 for heartworm treatment. Now we're up shit creek, trying to figure out how to pay for all this. Anyway, here she is: She's getting groomed Friday... Codyb88
Wow..... I'm sorry to hear that Chris but Margo is a beautiful dog. I'm sorry to hear you lost yeti. I couldn't imagine if I lost my dog, Yuna. I keep her up to date on everything the day she's due. That's many reasons I don't deal with breeders. They try to cut corners to make a quick dollar. I would look over your paperwork and call a shelter and tell them about the situation. If the dogs are in deplorable condition and not up to date on shots that's a reason to shut that place down in a heartbeat. There's a shelter I got my dog from that rescues dogs from conditions like this all the time.
Chreees
Yeah, I'm waiting on the refund check from the lady, then I'm filing some reports. Gonna do all we can for the other pups that were there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hassouni
Is there a national Great P rescue program?
Travis
Beautiful dog! It will never replace your loss, but I'm sure you guys will find a lot of love there. Good on you guys for taking things into your own hands for a good reason, that's ridiculous. She's in good hands.
Chreees
Yes, Hass. That's how I found this lady in Lebanon, TN. We already love the shit out of her, Travis. She's like a huge teddy near. Haven't had a single issue out of her yet (besides the heartworm, but that's not her fault!). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chreees
Man, this dog has learned my morning routine already and knew when I was about to leave. She started nipping at my shirt and pants, as if to say, "No, just stay home with me today!" It broke my heart leaving her. :( Meanwhile, Nora's still snoozing in bed with my wife. :P Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bawhee
That's a real beauty! Sucks to hear about the issues involved though... Good luck with the treatment money man!
kaoz187
Does your vet offer payment plans ? Maybe you could find one , when we took my brothers dog his vet offered a payment plan
Chreees
Does your vet offer payment plans ? Maybe you could find one , when we took my brothers dog his vet offered a payment plan They told us they could work with us and split it into two payments. So roughly $300 due when we take her in two weeks for the first set of injections, then the rest (roughly another $300) is due a month later when she goes in for the second set of injections. Worst part of all this is she just started playing with Nora, but she can't be getting herself worked up because it could kill her heart. :( Makes me so happy to see her stomp around my house, but kills me to make her stop and calm down. Satou
I would definitely report that rescue/breeder to the AKC for the conditions that you saw their dogs in and the condition of Margo (It sounds like a puppy mill! and AKC breeder requirements are pretty high up there. )
Chreees
From what I read online the AKC won't care. All they care about is getting your fees. But I likely will report to them anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
