New to the hookah scene

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm new the hookah scene. I'm new to the tobacco scene (started recently with flavored cigars) and tried hookah and it was absolutely amazing. I'm interested in buying a hookah for myself, but I know very little of what is a good product and what is not. Being a college student, living in the dorms, I can't smoke inside so I'd need a pipe that is relatively portable; plus, my parents can't find out about it whenever I go home for Christmas, Thanksgiving or summer so I'd need to be able to somehow conceal it. I read something that says that most pipes come with a carrying case which should work for that. But as for the pipe itself, I honestly don't know what is good and what isn't. I read a lot on here about the Mya QT being the popular thing now. I'm not interested in if its popular, as long as I can have the best hookah experience. I also don't care if the pipe is ugly, as long as it performs better (it's all abot performance in the long run anyways, right?). I was wondering if you folks would be able to direct me to a good vendor and would be able to help pick out what would be the better buy (I read something about tangier bowls being better or something. Is this true?).

Thanks

The QT is probably your best bet. I have never smoked one, but from what I have heard it smokes as good as a bigger hookah, and it is the most portable and hideable hookah on the market. I have a 20 inch 2 hose egyptian, and when I take the stem off the base it fits fine in a regular backpack with a large bottle of water to fill the base, lots of shisha, a role of foil, a small butane stove for lighting my natural coals, and large bag of coals, and tongs, but the QT is probably easier to hide.

WELCOME! I'm a newbie here too....also started with flavored cigars, though i've been smoking those for a few years. I recently have ahd my fist hookah experience thanks to TripleP on here...and as you said....I was amazed!!!

I do believe i will be getting a QT as well...if the avid hookah smokers on here really enjoy it, then i'm not gonna question it! I just have to save up or get my fiance to get it for me for Christmas!

Again welcome!

I need it as small as can be. I need to be able to fit it in a car and have it concealed at the same time (duffel bag maybe?).

I'm thinking at this point getting the Mya QT until I get an apartment will be the best bet, and then I can go for a massive Egyptian if I so desire.

Would I be good to go when I buy it? Are they any accessories (such as a different bowl) that you recommend I get straight away? I know most places have deals to get some shisha, tips, etc. so I shouldn't need most of that stuff.

Hookah-Shisha.com or Mnhookah.com lol wow theres just so many, depends on what kind of shisha you want. Mnhookah.com has good deals AND carrys all the tangiers shit so Id go with him and get 250 grams of tangiers along with a tangiers head

Well if you need one that small, the QT is the best in that size range for sure.

As for tobacco, the most popular around the boards is of course tangiers. But if your new to hookah i wouldnt reccomend this right off the bat. Tangiers is damn good, but is a tempramental tobacco, if your heat management isnt spot on, youll burn fast. Its one of those things you have to do it just right to work like it should. For a new person, i would reccomend the same thing most of us started out on, either Al Waha, or Nakhla for an unwashed brand.

Waha is excellent, great for the price. If you are going to be smoking outside you need either quicklights or if you choose naturals then you need a torch or camping stove. I use naturals when I am smoking inside and quicklights when smoking outside.

yeah it comes with romman which is shit to me lol, i never have a constant flavor with it, some batchs are good some are ok others are just bland. id go with 3kings for quicklights, im not sure about japs but alot of people seem to like em, i havnt tried em yet so i have no clue. if you ever use natruals ask scalli to sell you some, great coals imo

Romman and Nour natural coals are good,. Golden quicklights and three kings are pretty equal. And Romman Apple, Orange, and Lemmon are consistantly excellent in my opinion. Yoo bad the local place quit selling it. But its all subjective, so we will just have to agree to disagree :)

if your lazy like me get some 3Kings coals. I myself just got another box of em, and love em. The goldens that come with the qt from h-s arent all that great. They are harder to get lit and also do leave more of a smell behind. 3Kings be the best of the quick lights ive found.

Oh and romman isnt bad, its just overpriced. its not as good as its price. Al Waha is my favorite brand, and is still a pretty cheap brand for its quality.

Since I'm going to have to smoke my hookah outside, I would need a windscreen, right? Like one of those covers you put over the coals or whatever? Since I plan on getting a Mya QT is there a special type of windscreen that fits that hookah or they pretty much one size fits all?
