Noob Who Needs Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I been having problems with my Hookah setup... I am a noob in this area... I bought a 18inch MYA one hose setup and I was using Al Fakher with instalights round coals and getting great results.. I was lightheaded while hanging out and smoking and drinking some beers.

I recently ran into a problem were I think the gormmot was lose and kept sliding off and i noticed that i would get a pool of favor liquid on the bottom of my bowl which would catch the coals ash etc..... So I am not sure if this is the problem or the actually mya bowl that came with the setup.  Right now I get little smoke with 1 coal and with 2 coals I get decent smoke but within 20-25 mins my hookah is all burn up and black/grey color ( NOT TOUCHING THE FOIL ).

I need some help.

First off, WELCOME!

Second, 20-25 minutes is decent for a beginner if it isn't tasting like garbage at that point.  Liquid pooling at the bottom of the bowl is normal as the heat makes the molasses thin out and become way more liquidy than at room temp.  If you pack it properly, then you would be getting decent clouds with one coal and great clouds with 2 coals.

For Al Fakher, you're going to want to do a "fluffy" pack which means that you sprinkle the tobacco into the bowl and when the tobacco reaches higher than the lip of the bowl, compress it with your PALM and not fingers.  From there, TIGHTLY apply foil and poke holes.  More holes == more heat.

If you packed the tobacco fluffy, foil is on tight, and holes are good, then you should be good to go.  A great tip is to split a coal in half.  Take a box cutter, score a line on the middle of the coal, place the blade center on the coal, and hit it down with a hammer.  Go straight down on it with no hesitation and it should break cleanly in half.  I guarantee you'll have a much better time dealing with heat management with 2 halves than with 1 whole/2 whole pieces.
