Feh. Its a pitiful mag. We have have easily everything that the "mag" has per page. Thats more or less an e-pamphlet.

It seems he got all the reviews he would need from various forum member. Think about it, how much ammo does he have for future "zines", if people gave him say...20 reviews. Even 10? With the little amount of actual space he uses, he can make several more zines, and not have to think about it.

The other thing I noticed...he has whats little more than third rate hookah shops as his funders. Hookahs4You (That guy that advertised once with his 600 dollar stargates, then never appeared again) Southsmoke, SmokingHookah.

In other words, he gave this garbage aura about professionalism, then went ahead and did everything in the most halfassed, easy way possible. I suppose it doesn't truly matter. Who mettles in the matters of fools?
That was funny.  I forgot all about that "other" forum.  I can't believe they're still around!
I never knew there was another forum! But as to the idea of hostile to newbies that's total horseshit.

I am a bloody noob! And I have been made very welcome and for that I thank the members.

JD - Still a noob.
This particular person (hookamag) just came on the site offering the opportunity to become a reviewer for his e-zine.  People started calling shenanigans out of the blue.  He gave an unsavory review about our forum.

I'm going to back out of this conversation now, because people are going to start pointing the finger at me for being a vendor-sympathizer.
joseph mccarthy would love this
A couple of things:

HookahMag has 6 posts, all of which I believe are about the magazine. They are offering no input to the forum, which is what we ask of vendors (or pseudo-vendors in this case).

HookahMag was recieved with a lot of hostility after she blew off the emails of several senior members of the forum who offered to help her the last time she came around. I called the first shenanigans, and I won't revoke it because I feel I was in the right on this issue.

This forum asks for very little. Input where you have knowledge, a few welcome to the forum posts, and the civility of its members amongst themselves.

This is NOT too much to ask for.

uhh... i joined around a month ago and have never felt as if i was being cut off or 'not part of the clique'. WTF are they talking about? Sounds like someone needs to stay off the smack and get back to smoking hookah!

Also, whats with the design of their site? It looks like its from 1998.

EDIT: yay 100 posts

I think new members get a pretty good welcome here except when they come out of the gate with an obvious agenda. OR if they try to come off as an expert on something when they are not. Members here are quick to read and respond to any post with a "need help with X" in the subject line.

I've been participating here for about a month and some of the ideas I floated out there were not enthusiatically receieved - like preheating the packed bowl in the microwave. In no case was I ever dissed, but some of my ideas where. What fun would a discussion be if everyone agreed with you? Oh, someone once called me a lunatic for weighing out my shisha and finding out the water content. I have been called worse. Every fraternity has it's initiation rituals. This one is no different, imho.

yea the article was just in spite due to the way he/she was treated when they first came here. but they came on promising free stuff for articles, then didnt post or do anything else. If there long time members like they say then they would have known that we tend to be suspicious of people when they first come, espcially if there first post is advertising.

And i wonder if im one of the aparently only 2 posters XD

Congratulations to GoSH (GumonShoe...huh? Clever!)! 100...next stop, 150 and Grand Sultanism. If you guys get to milestones, sing out about. Sometimes its hard to notice everyone's post totals. I mean, there are so many NEW USERS AROUND HERE. That seem to come and go...Tons of people. We're nice. I'm nice.

We'll all obviously irritate some people sometimes. I think this is a good example of that, it might be that one of the .net people wrote that front article. I think that must be the case. I checked around and found that hookahmag had been there quite a bit. Oh, well. Its a hatchet job. I'll cry later.

People can say bad things about us, true or false, it doesn't change who we are. Maybe that article has some real good points we should be listening to. Maybe we aren't as friendly as we could be. I've noticed many times a new user posted a message and nobody responded to them...I'd post a response saying, sorry, I didn't know. Maybe we should take the time to help new users a little more and be friendlier. Criticism should be good, its a free chance to improve ourselves. Its hard to stomach sometimes, but thats exactly why its good...if we aren't uncomfortable, there's no reason to change anything.

I thought it was a little over the top, and I won't be paying for a subscription, but maybe we should be thanking them for reflecting how other people see us back at ourselves.

well i can say that no one from .net wrote that issue at all. I as i have said i post here i post there. Accually im a mod there for people who need a clarification and ive shown maturity(recentally) about that past issues. I just want to be apart of a hookah community i dont care where it is.

clash of culture makes me mildly upset based on how bad that review was. he didnt actually have anything to say. maybe he was pummeled for being cagey as shit and not actually giving goodies to people for reviewing. whats that called when you say something thats not true again? oh yeah lying. yeah we dont like people who lie on the forum. guess that makes us a bunch of assholes.
