strangeone
Probably a very, very stupid question, but is it possible to use ordinary barbecue briquettes with a hookah? Im guessing they're probably far too noxious for safe use, but who knows?
DizzyGuy
Who knows? A few of the people on the forum that tried this a looong time ago and took one puff. Never ever ever ever use BBQ Briquettes for smoking a hookah. And no, I'm not one of the people that have tried it.
hookah hippie
Dizzy guy hit the nail on the head, though what was funny was this guy who owns a cigar shop started selling hookahs so i went in to try to get coals he said he didn't have any but i could use a bbq briquett boy how I felt sorry for the poor fools who heeded that advice

Skimo
What if you didnt have any holes in the foil? so it would just heat the bowl without gettin anything from the bbq coal, just a thought, dont even know if it would smoke like that
critterchops
They're are a shitload of chemicals in BBQ briquetts that will make you feel sick. But if you do it make sure you video tape it and put it on youtube.com and I'll watch it.
Joseph
Well, if you didn't have any holes your hookah would not function. When you smoke you are pulling air through the tobacco, thats what the holes are for. If you don;t have any holes three will be no air flow, so no smoke. Next time you set uo your hookah, set it up like normal, but before you put the coal on top put your hand over the holes in hte foil and inhale. It should be nearly impossible to get any air, you will just have a vacume. This is a good way to make sure your hookah doesn;t have any leaks. Joseph
Plus, regulaer hookah coals put off a fair amount of CO, but the BBQ coal would put off tons. If you use a BBQ with those in your house you can die of CO poisening, imagine inhaling the fumes directly from one. A VERY bad idea.
Scalliwag
like critter said, briquets have a lot of chemicals, basically it starts out as powdered charcoal and it has liquids added to hold them together after they are compressed. natural charcoal is usually wood that is cooked without any air present. So it looks the same as it did when it was wood, except really black

MilqueToast
Can you say Darwin Award? I think it was Anpu and I that had someone on the chat convinced that Kingsford charcoal was a safe bet...but so that I am not the cause of anyone's death, I would advise you NOT to do this. Very bad idea indeed.

Sonthert
The chemicals in BBQ charcoal are far more harmful. THere are hookah lounges that do use it, last I checked, and everybody hasn't keeled over dead. They must be fully lit before using. I still wouldn't recommend it...I don't think they necessarily put off any more or any less CO than hookah charcoal, on the other hand either. I would never sell tobacco to a hookah lounge that used BBQ coal for their hookahs. In olden times, in the settlers time of the US, people would save up for a chminey. They'd set a fire in their home, without a chimney...I don't know that they weren't all retarded from the fumes, but ya know... I don't really know what I'm saying...don't start forest fires, though. Bambi might be still there. You would feel real bad if your hookah killed Bambi, right? So, don't do drugs.
