Puddy
I've started putting my pipe on a sheet pan I picked up from a restaurant supply when I smoke to catch any coals that may topple off due to clumsy friends (or curious kittens).
aronparsons
After 3 burns, I bought a QT for my primary pipe. When I do smoke with my Egyptian or Taqseem Spider, I put a decent sized carpet down around the area.

clarity
i usually tear off a strip of foil about 4 inches, double it over, and wrap it around the bowl after i've put the main piece of foil on top so that theres a little guard to keep the coals from falling off. does anyone else do this? shonimus
cheap rugs are the way to go. It functions as a rug, AND it doesn't let the coal burn the floor. I learned from a couple mistakes back when I was living with mummy.
Skimo
I agree with the cheap rugs, but I cant smoke inside anyways, maybe I should buy one for when I smoke at my friends because the coal always finds itself to the floor
[LB]
my carpet looks like a warzone. so does my table. Last weekend i was putitng a 44mm 3kings on the bowl but i guess it fell off wrong and rolled like a nickel leaving a blazing trail on the carpet. that was fun to clean up, and it smelt like burnt hair for the rest of the night. one thing i dont suggest though is DONT USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER if you spill your coals, i didnt realize they are filled with this powder, and I dropped a coal once and used it. FIlled the whole room with white powder and serously damage some electronic equipment. unless theres a real blaze going dont use one.

ThePaulson
I've scorched three carpets in three consecutive apartments.... I'm about to order a QT... What I really need is a stainless steel floor and a 200 lb. hookah with a tripod. -Paulson
Joseph
Yeah, assume your extinguisher is powder unless it says water. Some also have CO2, but powder is the most commen.

DarthHookah
interesting story- i had a girly-girl down in my basement and we were smoking the hookah. we started messing around, and she took her shirt off and threw it behind her. well, we thought it was behind her until we started to smell something burning. she had thrown her shirt on top of the hookah! ruined her shirt, had to go home in her jacket.
