coal consumption

Recommended Posts

I only use 2 but I dont sit down and smoke the whole bowl, if I was smoking the whole bowl probably 4 because when I finish the bowl isnt half way done and the coals could last another 10 minutes

It depends on the size of the bowl and the brand of tobacco. For brands like Al Amir, Starbuzz, Al Fakher, Havana and Fumari I will use 2 quicklights in a Mya bowl (2.5 in my large ceramic bowl). For Tangiers brand, I usually use 2-3 Japanese coals in the Mya bowl or 4 in the large ceramic bowl. I don't smoke until all the tobacco is gone; it's either until I've had enough or the flavor starts to fade off (no reason smoking half-flavorful shisha IMO).

All I use is phunnel bowls, and I usually smoke the entire bowl. I will typically go through 8 pieces of Canary Japanese Coals per bowl. I usally dont rotate either. I set two pieces on opposite sides of the bowl, and I'll smoke till it gets thin then ill set two more in a cross fashion. Then I ash the intial two coals and set them back on. Ill smoke again till it gets thin. If I feel I can keep going with just a little more heat Ill put a windscreen on till it gets thin. Then I just repeat the process. By the end I'll have used 8 pieces total and smoked for a good 3.5-4 hours straight with good thick smoke. Sometimes I might add another two. If the bowl still tastes good Ill continue the process. If it tastes a bit burned out I'll stop. For the phunnel bowl I pack the same way every time so I'm pretty consistent with it now.
