"Hookah" is the most common term. Originally, hookahs came from India as a form of coconut waterpipe, and is more aptly termed toward the implements from that region. "nargileh" is the Turkish term ("arguileh" in Lebanon), while "shisha" remains the term popular from Egypt to Saudi Arabia. I spoke to an Iranian, and he told me "shisha" is a term for "glass." In the early 90's I knew some American brothers who lived in Saudi Arabia because their parents were working there, and they brought a shisha back to America with some traditional apple flavored tobacco, and that was my first exposure to what they called a shisha.
Often, people call the tobacco "shisha" and this is TOTALLY INCORRECT!
A common term for the tobacco is maassell.

American Indian, Swiss, Irish descent here. Merriwether Lewis died at my great-great-great-great-great-great grandfathers Inn in Howenwald Tennessee is the only claim to fame of any of my ancestry I know of. My Great-great and great-great-great grandparents were on the Trail of Tears.
I am a very firm believer that all heritages have a lot a great things and my goal is to partake of all the fun ones I can find :) Middle eastern heritages are still knew to me. Their art is amazing. I want a huge tapestry to hang on my livingroom wall.
Hookahs and their food is incredible.
I am fascinated by things that are different to me so I am always open to see what others have to offer.

Last name in Gaelic means Warrior. Mother's maiden name is Scottish. Great-grandmother on one side is Sioux. That translates as me having super dark brown eyes, brown hair that has reddish natural highlights, red facial hair, the ability to tan, and I'm 5'8" and fat.

No Arabic decent here. TO MY KNOWLEDGE!
