mya qt tray problem

Recommended Posts

I just got a qt, the rubber seals for the bowl and hose are not as high quality as the stargate i realized. But they're soft probably seals better.
does anyone have a problem with the mya qt tray, it doesn't sit firmly wiggles left and right. Any simple and quick solutions? Its bugging me, my qt stem looks like a grenade rather than the other one, are there any differences in models?

Oh man............

Sucks huh? If you search my posts on this forum about the QT, you find other problems.

I actually like those grommets tho....

I am going into the kitchen to try something that might hold the tray on. but it would be a permanent modification.

Hey .... it works!

OK..... this is a permanent mod for the QT to better secure the ashplate.

Step 1.

Place your ashplate on the stem and on the top of the ashplate you will see that metal turns upward and meets the stem. Make sure the ashplate is level and make small marks with a felt marker along that metal rim at the 12, 4 and 8 0'clock positions around the stem where the plate meets the stem.

remove the plate.

Step 2.

The marks you have made will be positions you will need to cut shallow, horizontal grooves into the stem with a needle file that has a sharp edge. ( I used the diamond shaped one). On the low side of your marks, cut in shallow horizontal grooves about 3/16ths of an inch long. You dont need to go deep. just enough to catch your finger nail on when you drag it on the surface. Cut all three positions.

Step 3.

Replace the tray and make marks on that rim indicating the where each of your cuts are made. Remove the plate and use a pair of small hobby pliers or good old needle nose pliers and bend the rim on the plate IN TOWARDS THE HOLE on those three positions slightly. repeat this step after seating the plate and inspecting. if it does not lock in.... bend each of the points slightly more untill all three bends snap into the cuts you have made.

To remove the ashplate from that locked position..... simply rotate the about an 1/8th of a turn and it will free the bends from the grooves.

I can now pick up my QT by the ashplate.

Wheres my camera?

Um, all I did was take the bowl grommet and slide it down the shaft until it held the tray in place (bottom of grommet will flare out a tiny bit), and then put the bowl on. None of this Lakemonster crazy talk!

Ok. I broke my own rule about getting too close to my object in the first pic. but I think y'all will see what Im talkin about.

I had the same problem. There is a ghetto fix that I've been using to make the tray more stable. If you take a very small portion of a paper towel and put it under the grommet, it rests more stable-ly. That's all I can say to try...It's worked for me.

If I knew about this I wouldn't have purchased the shisha.

It's a nice piece otherwise but there were some nice ones on Shishaworld of similar spec and slightly cheaper.

The bowl grommet is not very secure in my opinion, and the black base grommet comes off (which I don't like).

I also don't like the size of the tray. The wobble factor of it is irritating.

Smokes ok so I don't think it's that big a deal, but I imagine other makes may have been more solid/stable at a cheaper price. (although I haven't seen them, it does seem improbable that they would have similar flaws as many cheapass shishas don't)

you could always solder that dang thing on there, while i do wish it was a bit more stable, the gasket seems to hold er on there just fine. its not like the ash tray will really catch any coals when you use any bowl bigger than the one that comes with it. I keep an extra little tin around for that.
