yashman19
I've had success with afzal, and I wouldn't call it crap. To tell you the truth, Afzal doesn't come up all that much here on the forum, and when it did, I don't remember people outright hating it. It is very strong though, I'll admit. Anywoo, I pack all my bowls the exact same way. The brand doesn't really matter (well, perhaps Tangiers). But for everything else, I have the same procedure. I use a large chinese ceramic bowl. Gently sprinkle the tobacco up to the brim of the bowl, then gently pack it down so the level of tobacco sits a few millimeters from the top. Then I wrap my foil over the bowl nice and tight, making sure there are no wrinkles in the foil. I use a pushpin and put ~60-70 holes on the foil evenly spaced out. I don't use quicklights so I'm not really sure, but I use two sections of my natural finger coals and keep them on oposite sides of the bowl from each other. As for my heat managment, after about 10-15 minutes into my session, I ash the first two coals, place them on the two oposite sides of the bowl now, and go from there. Rotate the coals after every ash around the perimiter of the bowl. This will ensure a nice even burn. You want to avoid putting your coals in the middle, as this is a sure fire way to start burning your bowl. Just keep them going around the perimeter. Other than that, it's up to you. Like I said, I pack and manage my heat this exact same way for all the different brands (except tangiers), and I have had sucuess with all of them.
