Caramellanne Posted October 19, 2006 Share Posted October 19, 2006 My husband absolutely HATES anything that anybody can smoke...And he hates the smell of the charcoals the most...so I had to find some that didnt smell as bad...he hates it because I have asthma and its retarded for me to smoke anything, and I know it...I choose to smoke though, its better than me smoking cigs...so, he is never around when I am doing it plus I feel weird when hes around when I am smoking. I get in the middle of something, like cooking dinner and have her prep the the pipe and bowl. She's a non smoker..... but has doesnt seem to mind me smoking the thing.... she'd rather me smoke that than bug her about smoking a cigar around her. I mean i know i shouldnt smoke like every day and wont. Mainly when i get the strong urge to relax after an especially long day at work or when i'm partying. Does it bother you that you have to keep it from him and he wont get involved? My wife will join me every so often but shes just not into it like me. The other night she went to bed and said when youre done i'll be here. it just makes me feel bad. your hubby and my wife are just worried about our health etc but i feel my wife worries a little too much. I hold the belief that hookah is not nearly as bad as cigs. Hookah definately smells better...HAHA I had a tub of shisha open at my moms place because I went over there to smoke with my aunt and she picked it up, smelled it and said "can you use this stuff as potpourri?" I almost fell out of my chair laughing... My husband is in the Army and spent a year over in Iraq and he said that all of his fellow soldiers smoked hookah all the time and he just sat there. I told him that you cannot judge something until you try it. I understand his concerns for my health, but he doesnt care that I hate his motorcycle because he has already been in a pretty bad accident, so we have an understanding. The motorcycle is something he will never give up and hookah is something that I will never give up, they are both endangering our lives in one way or another. Caramellanne Posted October 19, 2006 Share Posted October 19, 2006 This is the way that I look at it. ~Smoking ANYTHING is bad, no matter how you look at it ~There is not enough proof to show either side of the story ~No matter what any article says, people are going to smoke regardless ~There is no TAR in shisha, therefore that is one safer aspect to cigs ~There are about 1 million times less carcinogens in shisha that any other form of tobacco (another safer aspect) The only thing that I agree with is that, you smoke a cigarette and inhale much less because a cig usually lasts about 5 minutes if that...As we all know a hookah session can last hours so thus we are inhaling much more smoke...more damage to mouth and lung tissue. Now, smoking hookah in general for most people is a social thing...Usually for me, I do it about once a week so I am at much less risk to get cancer from it than a smoker... Yeah im always sayin you gotta enjoy life. you only get what you get and thats it at the end. I had lymphoma 2.5 years ago and i think i came away from that experience feeling more like you should do what you want/enjoy more than anything. I mean life is short. One could argue that I should do nothing more that can cause me disease or injury and that's what I should have gotten from my experience. I dont know, i just took a different stance on it. One big one is drinking. She comes from a family where she grew up watching her parents get drink constantly so she's scarred from it and now she's all over me. It's not like I wasnt a drinker before we got married. At one point she put these days per week i can drink more than 4 drinks rule and since then we've put that behind us. The funny part is she really doesnt have much (in my pOV) that she does that's borderline dangerous or anything!!! I cant say,"ok have your motorcycle and i can drink and hookah once a week". that makes it difficult for me. All she does is work on school. I actually have to tell you, when she does partake in drinking or smoking the hookah, it actually turns me on as odd as that sounds!!! Its like taboo or something. I bet it is some of that taboo thing. you know, seeing girls doing something "naughty" or whatever. Yeah you're right about compromise. That's what we've been working on. It just seems like I'm on the compromise hot seat much more! I guess I'm very vice-ridden. Also, I wish your husband the best of luck in Iraq and comes home soon and doesnt need to go back!
