A question came up in my hose reviews. I rated Khalil Mahmoon hoses 7/10 and new Khalil Maamon hoses 5/10 or some such and Melobunny (sorry, I can't remember your exact name) asked if I hadn't recommended them as my favorite. I have recommended them, but as they were the only leather hoses on the market, commonly available. The new Khalil Mahmoon hoses look good but smoke badly, in my opinion...although I have only tried the one. The chemical flavor associated with it seems to be chemicals from the glue or fabric and is quite obnoixous. Caravan hoses seem to be very well made and smoke well and they are myt new favorite available, right now. The old leather hoses I have are still the best, hands down.

In my opinion, if there was exactly one area of hookahs that needed improvement, it would be hose quality.

So, I might as well turn this into a poll. '

I have a Mahmoon hose and I really like it. I don't get any off flavors from it. But a far better leather hose and the best hoses you can buy are definitely real Turkish coffeehouse hoses. They have thicker leather and are double the diameter of the Mahmoon hoses, pull like no other. The construction is flawless on these hoses with no off flavors. They are also really long unlike the unpleasantly short Mahmoon hoses. They have nice long cloth handles and solid handturned wood and plastic resin mouth pieces. They are a bit expensive but well worth it if you can find them. By far the best hose and best leather hose I have owned. I have a couple of them and they have given me no problem.

thanks for the elaboration. :) i'd been thinking about trying a khalil hose for a while now based on your earlier comments. i ordered one a few days before i found your review and exchanged it for a mya the day after. the long-handled one this time.

that's what attracted me to the khalil anyway-i miss the long handled hoses i used to smoke with at the hookah bar.

on another note, i just gotta say, i haven't smoked any tangiers in a couple of months. just got a few flavors delivered three hours ago, opened up, sitting on the counter. man, i don't know why i bother buying anything else...so i won't. :D

Recently on my trip to egypt, I went to the Khalil maamoon original shop.

Was pretty cool to see the shop of the brand you see stamped on most of the shisha equipment.

I am a fan of the hoses, I feel that the pull is nice and the width of it makes it a very comfortable smoke. Their hoses cost probably 2 dollars over there (with some bargaining room) and the shop is in the middle of a ghetto. In fact, Cairo is quite a run-down place with the very poor and the very rich.

People either are living in the clouds, or underground. Nobody lives in the surface. (metaphorically speaking).

The shop itself just has parts upon parts and you build your own shisha from the available parts.

They are probably the most commonly found hoses (with detachable ends) in shisha cafes in london and generally, with dedicated hoses to dedicated flavours, I've found them perfect.

the mya hoses are great for home use, but if I was to have one single session with one hose at one time, I would choose the khalil maamoon (or however you want to spell it) for comfort.

yeah in my local hookah shop TAWOOQS in east london they use all Khalil Maamoon hoses, a seperate hose for each flavour, never mix the hoses up but if your after a mix flavour they'll pull out some Mya hoses to use but i love the Khalil Maamoon hoses they are the best! such an easy draw and there just great!
