Guest LondonShisha
Anyone tried Natural Coconut coals? Was curious about them so ordered some which I got today. A 3kg box full of 2inch cubes. Took an age to light them on my stove, but once they got going they're pretty clean burning. Had a 45 in session with them and I was pleasantly surprised how long it burns. In fact, the coal is still burning now even after my session! Anyone else had any experience with these coals?
Pieces
Where'd you order these. Sounds like something for a friend and I to try out.
Guest LondonShisha
www.shisha-world.com They're based in Germany, so no taxes to anywhere in the EU. Not sure how much delivery is to the US.
Scalliwag
do they look like they are compressed from powder? If they are 2" square they must be. I wonder what they use as a binder to keep them together.
Guest LondonShisha
yeah they do look like they must have been compressed - says it's totally natural on the box though. how could i find out?
Scalliwag
I don't know how to find that out. If you sniff an unlit one up close does it have any distinct smell?
tw!sted
Damn, never knew there was an online store so near here that was so well stocked, time to experiment with different carts ....
gingervoodoo
I'm definately going to buy some when I next need a load. I like the whole recycling of a by-product jazz! For those on the forum that dont know them I've cut and pasted the details from shisha-world.com below Enviroment-Friendly By winning this primary product neither fertilizer nor pesticides are used. The energy for the production process needed is far under average. COCOCHAs die down without leaving much residues. The Ashes weighs only 2% of the original product weight. 80% less than usual charcoal! For COCOCHA not a single tree is dieing. The coconut shells are only left overs from the palm oil production. The charcoal is not quick-lighting and should thererefore be lighted up by using a strong lighter or torch lighter.

Guest LondonShisha
Damn, where'd all you english folk come from? Anyway, it took about 4 days to ship a 6KG box, and seems to cost the same in shipping whatever you buy (16.8 Euros). They send it via DHL Express. and you don't incur any taxes as they're already been paid in Germany. I bought some 3 kings Charcoal, the coconut charcoal, and a Mya Acrylic. I thought they're prices were excellent. They dont' seem to stock much tobacco. I think we'll still have to rely on our cousins across the pond for that. Guest LondonShisha
btw, that 2inch square block of coconut coal stayed lit for well over 3 hours. I'm not kidding you! I think i'll try and cut the blocks down to a much more manageable size, but they are pretty tough so might have to use an electric saw or something. The coals do not have any discernable smell or taste. I smoked AA Blackberry and could only taste the flavour and not any part of the coal - just like my natural finger coals. i do however get a coal taste from my 3kings coal. aerorox
hi! yeah, most of the natural coal smokers here in germany use cocochas. they're good. they glow very long. small advice : the block is too much of heat, cut it into 4 pieces. then take 2 of them to smoke. lwieise
Hey ya crazy Europeans...now we want some! Also, has anyone had experience with those "Jordan Style" hookahs that they have for sale? They look awesome.

DizzyGuy
Can you order these in the states? And I'm thinking chizle + hammer.
Hookah_Bob3
I don't know about cutting them, but there's a vid on hookah-chill.com where they show them being used..They put foil on over the bowl, punches a ton of tiny holes, took another piece of foil that they folded and turned into a circle (so the next layer of foil didn't touch the first) and then poked big holes in that one, then put the lit coal on top
Guest LondonShisha
I used a screwdriver and hammer to cut them into pieces, though they came out in odd shapes and sizes. These coals definately last a while, but you have to have them fully glowing hot, otherwise the side your smoking on usually starts to cool down and it gets messy. Other than that, they are pretty clean smoking. Last night I used a few small pieces, and when they died down I stuck a 3kings coal on top. I could instantly taste the 3kings - can't believe how much coal taste we actually get used to. btw, check out my other post about coals and microwaves

Works good. It's the same principle as cutting glass or tile. MR Bubble
Sonthert
There's two kinds on the market. There are preformed "Japanese shape" ones and the one's Smiley gets, which are cracked hexagons. The preformed boxed ones burn too hot, but nicely. Smiley's coconut coals smoke much better.
azcoyote
I'VE been looking for a domestic source for them and without luck. The factory in china will gladly send me a 20fcl but won't send samples. Do they really think someone will buy a container load without inspecting the merchandise? Go figure.
