Dragonsmettle
are screw on bases better or no?
Johnny_D
Screw. I loved my one with a screw base. Was excellent. I hate fannying around with that big assed rubber seal JD
DizzyGuy
Eh, I actually kinda liked my non screw on egyptian a bit better than my screw on stargate... but they both work fine to be honest.
Joseph
I have never had a problem with my non-screw on egyptian, it seems like worn down threads would be just one more problem, and a grommet is easy and cheap to fix.
Dragonsmettle
hmmm, also how can you tell if a hookah is an import and not something made in kentucky?
zabens
I use my screw screw on hookah about twice as much as my other two. Mainly because it's acrylic and I don't have to worry about breaking it. It's also convenient to set up inside (even with the coal) and just to grab by the stem to take outside. That way it's easier to balance and you can use one hand to carry it. It basically comes down to convenience. I would say just buy the hookah you really want to get. If it's looks you're going for then you have many more options with a standard hookah.
Erica
I just recently purchased a screw on Bo. Glass Mya Hookah and I love it! If you ina crowed room, or at a hookah bar, and need to move your hookah.. or someone moves it for you you dont have to worry about the base falling off the stem! Or broken Bases! The Dude Abides
Water and threaded metal just strikes me as a bad combination.
Thadeus
I have both. I'm not sure which I like better really. They both have their advantages. It really comes down to preference in my opinion.
Dragonsmettle
im just worried that if i get a non screw one im gonna break it somehow trying to put it together
Caramellanne
I like the non screw on version because I cannot stand the sound of the metal screwing onto the glass and the scratching crunching noise!
Erica
there are metal threads on the hookah... that metal never touches glass.....
The Dude Abides
So essentially we're talking about metal-to-metal thread contact? Oy. Throw water into that equation, along with Chinese-made metal parts, and it tends to make me squirm a bit.
Caramellanne
Erica, the first hookah that I bought didnt have metal threads, the glass itself was threaded (EEK) so, do you see what I mean???

Caramellanne
Yeah, it was retarded...Thats why I got rid of it! Anyways it was a chinese hookah and a piece of crap with shitty hoses and the paint on it was chipping off. Oh and the stem was painted green and when I would wash it out, there was masses of green water coming out of the stem! I was like WHAT THE HELL! The Dude Abides
Eh, I've worked as a mechanic before, and have had to deal with stuck threads. There's nothing more annoying. Usually this happens when screws are corroded by exposure to liquid. And if we're talking about Chinese-made "stainless steel," it just scares me. Having to torque a stuck screw or bolt loose is not fun. So if I have the option of using a rubber grommet, I would chose it every time without question. Erica
I have never, not once, in the past two years of using a screw on vase had one problem. These hookahs are used multiple days a day too.... and there is always water in them, even when they are not being smoke.....So I dunno.. Have you ever owned a screw on hookah before? The Dude Abides
No, I would never buy one. I have dealt with siezed bolts many times, though.

Anyways, the hookah stem itself was PAINTED green and I guess that the stem was getting so hot that it was melting it or something. I know for sure that it was the paint that was making the water green.
MilqueToast
Personally, I like the security of a threaded stem/ base. I haven't had any problems with mine at all.
Sonthert
Gasket-man, here. I've seen too many cracked and dislodged threadings. Only Nour's threaded jar is any good, from the ones I've seen. Acrylic jars are better since adhesives work better.
