the first official question: Are you waiting until your golden is white all around? If it is still black, its still getting up to heat and the chemicals involved can be pretty nasty.

2nd question: (i ask this because i know someone who did this their first time out) you ARE using foil or a screen betwen your tobacco and your coals right?

3rd: hhow MANY coals are you using at one time?

Any chance you can post a pictures or 3 of your setting up and your final set up?

I've smoked a number of times out of the S-class, what you have, and it was fine.

1. I do the same thing with the coals I always do , Wait till it is all red hot.

2.Yes I am using foil , Im not that newbish.

3.Pics wont help , I just load it , put foil , poke holes, and put the red coal on it.

I only have had good smoke with the Al-Amir Blackberry , The AW/ Nakhla sisha is the problem and Im out of unwashed. ( Accually , I got AW cherry to go ok outta my qt but it is a pain with like AW vanilla and Nakhla Orange. )

What are you using to make the holes? Try using something, say for instance, an earring. Then with the back of the earring punch very little holes all around the bowl, and then I make a few more in the middle of the bowl. Then just try lighting the coal and putting it on there. This is what usually works for me. I found that very small holes help manage the heat so much better, and you get much more flavor as well.

Also, when putting water in the base, make sure the stem is only in the water by an inch or so. This should help alot as well.

That should do it for you... I am pretty sure. I had the same problem with my small 20 inch mya acrylic. I tried everything in the world to get it to smoke as my big egyptian. What I did was I just poked smaller holes in the foil and wow, worked like a charm. I get thick clouds and amazing flavor.
