ZAP
I just wanted to know what you guys think of the phunnel bowl. I have been unable to get a decent smoke out of it so far with AF tobacco so I just wanted to know if it's just me (most likely). If you can also post your hole pattern/packing/heat management info with us particularly the AF.
Erica
I have one, and I love it!! I also smoke AF out of mine, and I never had a problem with it... To start my bowl to start my bowl I use three quarters or Jap Coals, and then once it needs it, I will put four on, like that picture shows. ZAP
Thanks Erica. Do you fill the bowl above the rim? I've never tried over-filling it as it would be a large waste in my short sessions and the drag is always really tight when not overfilled. Erica
http://www.hookahforum.com/layalina-reviews-t5409.html That is with the normal tangiers bowl, not the funnel, but I pack it nearly the same, and little bit less full with the Funnel
EvansLight
i love my funnels. Granted i dont use them as much as i want, but too much for me in one sitting by myself XD once i get a small funnel ill more than likely use it daily. I had a bit of trouble the first time with it, but i was using a new bowl and a new tobacco (first time with tang was first time with the funnel too). But i can now get it smoking perfectly. i poke holes over one small part big enough for a coal, and one over the center, then just rotate the foil. DizzyGuy
Getting a small and large phunnel once mn gets them in stock.
The Dude Abides
The big question, however, is are they really superior to standard heads? And either yes or no, how come?
Erica
I think they are pretty much even.... The one thing that I really like about the Phunnel is that the molasses doesn't get everywhere, and it often saves your base from smelling like poo. ZAP
You didn't mention longer smoke time Erica - Is that because you forgot or you don't see much of a difference?
Erica
Well, I have noticed a longer smoke time.. probably about a 15to20% longer smoke.
EvansLight
id say its better. long smoke times, constant flavour, and it keeps things so much cleaner. oh and it just looks so awesome
The Dude Abides
I usually don't smoke very long, so any extension of time isn't too big a deal. But actually, the lack of ma'assel drippings down the shaft is a huge plus in my eyes. That alone may be why I finally get a phunnel bowl.
pauldavis
i like it because the flavoring doesn't drip away...i pack one up a day and just come back to it when i want more...but i use the 5x5 hole pattern and rotate the foil, so all the tobacco is not cooked at once
ksblazer
quick question :?: I know that you can purchase the funnel bowl from hookah company. I'm just curious how much shisha does it hold? Thanks

The smaller i believe holds around 25g and the big ass'd one holds around 50g However I only plan to 1/2 fill it again as i only use about 10-12g per bowl. But i hope the effect will be as good. I see they advertise 2 Tang bowls, but I belive only 1 is a funnel. So it holds aabout 25g's. That is about the size I'm looking for JD
azcoyote
I get good results with my small bowl. Haven't had occassion to pack the larger one. I fill it but VERY loosely to just below the foil level. For holes, I use the oyster fork to make three concentric circles of holes in one pass over the trough part only. No holes in the center at all! Since I really don't want huge clouds of tangiers smoke, I use just enough heat to get the smoke density I want. After an hour or so, stir up the trough to refresh the flavor with all the good stuff saved from going down the stem. Works like a charm. By not overheating the flavor is preserved admirably. And I just hate to waste good 'baccy.
