Homemade Shisha: Take 1.

Recommended Posts

Okay, I decided to try making my own molasses tonight. Interesting results.

I grabbed a bit of pipe tobacco from work (the bulk kind, in jars,) and made a blend of two different tobaccos, and mixed it with some honey. It came out looking very similar to true shisha tobacco, I did it with only a little bit of honey, so it was a drier shisha like Nakhla.

I load it into the bowl, use the microwave technique to get it warmed up a bit, and get it going. Three deep puffs exhaled through the nose later, I was high as a kite. I set down the mouthpiece and floated for a while, tried a few more puffs and just couldn't take any more.

The blend has alot of potential, I've been looking for something a bit stronger, and I think with some tweaking I can make it a bit more smokable. The flavor was decent, had the flavor of the pipe tobacco, and a noticable honey character. I think with the addition of molasses, some flavoring, and a slightly wetter blend, I can get something really decent here.

Man, I can't imagine bringing that pipe tobacco into my lungs... I've smoked pipe, cigars (but never ciggs), and I only puffed them, never inhaled. Every once in a while I would accidentally bring some of the smoke into my lungs, and would cough my brains out... Very understandable that you got soo buzzed from just a few puffs. Must have a much higher nicotine content compared to regular hookah baccy.

Keep us updated, and like Useless mentioned, add some glycerine. That, and if you want to add some flavors, try artificial flavorings. I speak with Samir from Taqseem's Hookahs pretty often, who has his own line of tobacco 'Pharoahs', and he says that virtually no big brand of hookah tobacco uses actual fruit rinds/pulp to get the flavor. They all use artificial stuff. So keep that in mind. Maybe you could use some vanilla extract?

Well thats a pretty brave move haha, atleast you smoked it after you made it. I would also try some kind of extract for flavoring, maybe just check out shit at the local kroger and see what all they have
