Taste Test at Heat!

Recommended Posts

So, the magazine Inside Hookah is hosting a taste test tomorrow (Friday) night at our new favorite lounge, Heat. Here are some things you might like to know if you plan to attend:

Time: 10-11 pm
Where: Heat. 1910 Story Ln, Irving, TX
Info bits: They're setting up 5 stations with various flavors of shisha to taste. For the most part, it'll be Al Amir with a possible bit of Starbuzz.

So, anyone else attending?
yea i couldnt make it XD my van is still in the shop, and i couldnt get a ride. Plus justins car got screwed up so he wasnt going to make it either.

So how did it go?
Not too good. Sucked would be the best description. I ordered two bowls, both were house blends. When I got my tab it was $55.90. I asked about it and was told they were $25.00 each. I don't remember seeing any bowls that high on the menu and it is my fault for assuming there was no way in hell they would be that high.
So I view that as my fault. So I have no plans of going back and any parties I have will be somewhere else.

Philip said they forgot to give me my 25% forum discount but she knew I was not happy about the tab. They did not offer to fix it and I don't think I should have had to ask. You just don't go back if that's the way that is and you don't recommend the place.
I still tipped because I don't believe in not tipping so it was $64 for two bowls in the end.
Finding another hangout.
It was good to see everybody and meet Ali's brother and see him and Jeff and some of their friends as well as the Heat staff. The Inside Hookah folks were very nice and the testing seemed to be very successful.
Ouch....

I must admit, hookah is not worth $25 a head... at any rate in my book.

Hell... you could get 2 tins and a case of Shiner Bock for that.... might as well kick it "at the crib" for that kind of cash.
Here is something that makes no sense to me. At the party I ordered 2 heads and pizza and the little hamburgers that came two to an order. It was half off hookahs for the forum. My tab was $24 and that was with food.
I was so happy with the service and everything that I gave her $40 and said to keep the change because you take care of those that take care of you ya know?
I did the math over and over on the difference between last night and Saturday and it did not add up. I have no idea what is going on with that but that is the way.
Not only that but my wife just checked the account and the ran my card for $10 over and I paid the tip in cash, so this just went even more fuggin south!!!! I'll be damn before I sit back and let them add on another $10 to a ridiculously high tab. Now I am really pissed.

sorry to hear that scalli.you guys were hyped about the place too! i hate when that happens. its happened before at our old weekend hangout, a mediteranean restaurant that serves shisha. they usually hook us up even havin 2 bowls ready and their best hookah cleaned with ice in the base for when we got there. but there have been times where they over charged us. lucky for them they fixed it right away.

it was funny one time they had a crazy line outside (it turns into a sort of nightclub with hookah and booze pouring till 2am after the belly dancers which is 10:30pm or so) and we showed up and walked up in front of the line and walked right in. this guy got all pissed talkin shit at us and whatnot (it was 5 of us and him and his girlfriend waitin for a while) the doorman was like hey they come every weekend and drop 300 bucks a nite friday and saturday are u gonna do that? the guy got all quiet. it was pretty funny cuz the highest our bill has ever been was 150 bucks with a buncha of us and we all got wasted!

The lounge closest to me you can only smoke on the patio and the place is always packed. But the have great food and Starbuzz is $15 for the first bowl and I think $5 refills, maybe $7 on Starbuzz, don't remember. They have BYOB as well but I had a hard time getting 6 people seated there on a Friday night. It would be nice if they got a larger place before the next annual event.
But after last night I am for making reservations for a group for dining and then have them work on getting us a place on the patio while were are finishing up on eating.
I guess we need to dress for outdoor seating if we go there for now. Does anybody know the link to the hookah lounge finder?

Thanks. There is another place in Irving I am not familiar with. They don't serve alcohol or have BYOB. :( There was a communication breakdown so I was not getting anywhere trying to find what brands they had but bowls are $7.95. The menu looks nice.
I dunno though. I will have to check it out. http://www.dunesgrill.com/
The owner of Giza International Foods where I get some supplies told me that someone is supposed to be putting a lounge in near him.

Hopefully I will get the patio by my hot tub finished within a couple of months. Once that is done we would have a nice place we can have a lot of people over and comfortably smoke until a place that really fits the venue comes up.
I know that other members will go to Heat and they may not have a similar experience hopefully. But I am not the type to overlook something like this and have no problem bowing out of going to a place that pisses me off.
thats really pretty unnacceptable. making a mistake is ok... not fixing it isnt. Id complain scalli. did they mention that the special blends were 25 bucks each? what were they hand packed by virgin supermodels?
Maybe DaretoDream can say what he was charged when he went Wednesday because he went then and did not mention anything about $25 bowls.
Like I said I even still tipped. Complaining and making a big scene is something that would take more than that. It already felt pretty insulting and the stage was set that me coming back if they had the balls to hand me that tab was not going to happen.
They let two bowls keep them from having a very regular customer that tips well and *usually* brings several people when I go anywhere.
Last night was an exception because I had to go to a highschool football game to walk my daughter across he field for a senior ceremony. So planning for last night was pretty limited since I had no idea when I could leave the game.
Sometimes the best way to complain is taking your wallet and your friends elsewhere and take it as a lessoned learned.

well the al almir bowls were like $10 a peice, and the starbuzz was around $16 or $17, and the house blends were... crap i dont remeber, but they were high i remeber that XD

But that sucks man, sounds like you got screwed over. no way to justify that much for 2 bowls, have to be some damn good and damn expensive baccy for me to drop that much, i can barely drop $20 for 250g of tobacco XD

I expected to pay more a blend but that was more than expected and I was mad enough not to even bother about asking about the forum discounts or anything. Hearing $25 per bowl was enough to set me off.
Not only that but it was taking forever to get the damn thing. Literally 30 minutes on the second one. Philip checked on me and I told him I had ordered it and he went back and got it. I was a little miffed that it was taking a lot longer than I expected but I knew they had a decent crowd in the other room and after I was getting a "discount" so I thought. Plus I had Shinerbock so I was not going to complain.
It was completely opposite from the party night. Bad service and overpriced.

I am sorry Mr. Scalli, I shall never make a comment in such a rude manor again, will you ever forgive me? But you have some serious dicipline lol, I wouldn't have paid that much and argued with them
