linkcat
Well finals are finally over and I have time to relax, so I thought I'd finally pump out a bunch of reviews that I've been meaning to post. Much of the Al Amir I got as samples from thehookah.com (thanks George!!) and some I bought from there as well. The Roman, Fumari, and AF I mostly got through Mathazar's massive generosity (Thanks Math). There's a lot to write so I'm going to make them brief, if you'd like more info just ask. Note: These are not facts, just my opinions. I didn’t lie about what I tasted, but if you disagree let us know. Thanks!! First off Al Amir Double Apple: I bought this one after trying a sample from thehookah.com. Mmmm so good. Lots of Apple flavor lots of licorice flavor. So much flavor it’s kinda like a lung massage. Great Great silky smoke. My favorite 2x apple flavor. Overall grade-A+ Grape: Smells great, but I don't taste much of any flavor. Everyone else says that its ultra flavorful but I taste nothing. Great smoke though. Overall grade-D due to its lake of flavors Mixed Fruit: More like a mixed berry. I taste a mix of grape, cherry, strawberry a maybe a bit of citrus. I like it. Good smoke but not as good as 2x apple or grape. Overall grade-B Blackberry, 3x Apple, Watermelon, Pomegranate, and Kiwi Strawberry: I got these from thehookah.com's recent sample send out. None of them were bad per-say but they weren't good. Just random sweet tastes that didn't taste like what they were supposed to. Watermelon was the best but not worth getting. Overall grade-C Roman Orange: This is really good stuff!! I think its soo much better then AF orange. A true orange flavor with a zest to it. Roman always has nice thick smoke. Overall grade-B Peach: This is my favorite smoke. Whenever I’m not in the mood for a certain flavor I go for Roman Peach. I’m not even a big fan of eating peaches but I love the massalla. A true peach flavor with great smoke. Overall grade-A+ Sweet Melon: Lots of people love it but it doesn’t seem all that special to me. It def has a true honeydew taste, but it has kind of a weak flavor and it loses its flavor rather quick. But as with all Roman has great smoke. Overall grade-C- Strawberry: Not a strong distinct strawberry flavor, but a nice flavor none the less. Better mixed then alone. Apple Strawberry blend is awesome. Overall grade-B- Apple: The only single apple I’ve ever tried. Very nice smoke however I’ve heard great things about AF apple so I’ll hold comparison until I try that. Overall grade-B Coconut: VERY VERY STRONG flavor. A hose destroyer. A very true coconut flavor, hover I find it sick alone and I have to mix it to smoke it. Nice mixed though. Overall grade-C due to my personal tastes. AF Orange: A nice orange flavor however not as good as Romans. Overall grade-C+ Strawberry: I didn’t taste much flavor. Great smoke but no taste in the smoke. Lots of other people will say I has a strong flavor, but I didn’t taste it. Overall grade-D Fumari White Peach: I got some of their new “soapy peach” flavor. It’s gross. Wait a month or two till they change there formula back to the original before trying it. I know I will. Watermelon: OMG the is the most awesome flavor ever. It’s not an everyday smoke for me, but when I do have it it’s a treat. Super strong watermelon candy taste. Good smoke. Overall grade-A+ Also I now have a couple jobs so I will soon have enough money to send out some samples. Drop me a PM with your name and address and I'll start sending out some samples (funds allowing). (Trades are cool but not required)
Mathazar
Great reviews linkcat!!! I agree with you on the Romman Orange all the way, that's a fantastic orange flavor. You're right about the soapy White Peach from Fumari, they told me that they are re-doing the flavor and it will be better than the current batch. The very first time I ordered White Peach, it COMPLETELY blew me away. SO MUCH BETTER than Romman Peach. But this current batch that I gave you really SUCKED I'm glad you liked the Watermelon, that's one of my favorite Fumari flavors I also agree with you on the AF Strawberry, I thought it really BLEW!!! I'm really surprised to hear that the Al-Amir Double Apple is SO good, because all their other flavors SUCK!!! Thanks for the reviews. Though, you didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know, it's nice to read other people's opinions. How do you like that Rotator Hookah? Do you still have it, or did you give it away? No matter either way, as long as somebody is enjoying it. Spread the wealth around, that's my philosophy in life. You really ought to try some Hookah-Hookah flavors. Specifically: Apple, Grape, and Melon. They're very authentic and enticing flavors. If you wait until after the 1rst of January, Hookah-Hookah.com will be releasing 10 new flavors. I'm really looking forward to trying their Orange, Pina Colada, Jamaican Rum, Cinnamon, and Watermelon. Judging by how good their Melon, Grape, and Apple flavors are, I just can't imagine that those other flavors would be any less than pure PERFECTION!!! They decided to take my reccommendation for Butterscotch, and they said that it will be released with the next batch of 10 new flavors available in March. I'm SO HONORED!!! HookahCulture
OK I tried a few that King Mo sent me. Dana Peach: I know this isn't in the topic heading, but the next one is. Anyway, I've never heard of the Dana brand. The texture of the product is LUMBER FREE and finely cut. Very well-done. The flavor is not sweet at all, and is not big in peach flavor in comparison to Romman peach. However the Dana peach has a REALISTIC peach flavor even though it's subdued. You can even taste the smell of the outside of the peach, you know when you smell it? The ma'asell seems to be a more traditional flavor, I can't place the flavor that's mixing in with the peach, it's just....something else. Some sort of buffer I can't explain, and it has its own flavor. Overall it's a consistent smoke. Definitely not a sweet candy flavor. Moisture level is medium, not as much as Romman. Grading this is a bit hard, because the ease of handling and the high quality of the material texture makes up for the lack of sweet peach I was looking foward to. However it's just different in flavor. Overall not bad. I'll give it a flat B. Romman peach: Big in flavor, consistent, and only a slight hint of the cardboard flavor that shines through in the Al Waha peach. The product itself is leafy and clumpy, and needs to be broken up thoroughly and requires a bit of effort in comparison to the Dana which seperated readily. Moisture levels are high so it provides the booming flavor. I'd like to compare it to Splash or Fumari white peach to see which is the best of the "sweet" peach varieties. Overall a good smoke, I'll give it a B+. The flavor made up for the inconvenience in handling, but I will say I didn't like the texture of the product and this is why it didn't get an A. ------------------------ Overall I think I'm still looking for the ultimate peach, and I think the Splash or Fumari might be it. I remember how some of you didn't like the Splash ANYTHING, but I remember liking the white peach. I just can't mentally compare at the moment, I'll have to experience it again. I never had the Fumari peach, I seem to remember someone saying it's the only good flavor they do..... Reviews coming up: Fumari guava and Qema apple! --Reiner
HookahCulture
Fumari guava: I just finished a small bowl for flavor evaluation. Overall I was impressed! True to the flavor, sweet, very nice and smooth. I would definitely have this in my regular rotation. Aftertaste is delicious, liplicking was too! Smoke volume was average and adequate. Held its flavor to the end. I wonder what an AF (GS?) guava would be like - perhaps closer to the intensity of juice. The Fumari was very true to a guava juice in that you know the flavor, you like it, that's the way it is, but you could imagine how it would be if the flavor was bigger. This wasn't bigger than the juice, and not as sweet. Overall a very well-achieved flavor. I'm almost thinking that a more intense flavor would be fakey sweet? This is the first guava I've tried, I don't know of other brands that have a guava, maybe YOU do. I love guava juice, I drink it all the time, and this, again, was a true representation of the flavor! It was smooth as well, and very pleasurable! Material texture was very good - finely cut, no clumps, excellent moisture. Not gooey like AFGS, came apart easily. The only lumber I found in the loading was a single 2x2mm piece which was easily flicked into the trash. For my first guava flavor, I have absolutely no complaints and no cause for deduction of points from a solid A grade! When I find a better and more intense guava, I will award that an A+ I'm sure. E.G.
First off Al Amir Double Apple:... So much flavor it’s kinda like a lung massage. Great Great silky smoke.... Grape: Smells great, but I don't taste much of any flavor. Everyone else says that its ultra flavorful but I taste nothing. ...
Hmm, now that's funny. When I was a benefactor of George's first offering over the summer, I had the opposite experience: great scent, good smoke, but no flavor from the apple. Everyone else couldn't say enough about it, though. The grape bowled me over, though -- unfortunatly, I think I was possibly burning it as it had an impact like a quadrupule shot of cheap tequila . Great flavor, though, if you're looking for a sort of bubble-gum inspired grape. E.G.
E.G.
I'll give it a flat B.
Is that the same as a sharp A, then? E.G.
linkcat
E.G. Its funny that you got nothing from the Amir 2x Apple but lots of taste from the grape. I got exactly the oppisite. Oh and Math I love the Rotater. I use it when I have guests over and everyone loves it (they think its the coolest thing ever). Thanks again!!! HookahCulture
I know it doesn't QUITE belong here but I thought I would continue with another review from King Mo's shipment. Qema apple: This apple was nice in many ways! In fact, i really think it's 90% of what the AFGS Bahraini Apple SHOULD be. If you tried that, then you know there are some licorice issues in the AFGS BA, and the Qema apple has NONE OF THAT! It's the closest to RED apple I've tasted. It was delicious but not as intense as I would imagine perfection. It's still VERY GOOD. Good representation of the flavor, excellent smoke volume and a smooth smoke that borders on texture, for lack of a better term, to the AFGS Esk Apple. Now you must realize it takes a lot for me to even MENTION comparability of AFGS Esk unless it's good! It's too bad that it's not available anywhere except select shops! Material texture: Juicy but not gooey like AFGS. The leaf was thick and medium cut, not thin leaves like Romman peach, and this prevented serious clumping. There was SOME clumping, but this was to be expected - not everything can be fine cut and clump-free like the Dana peach or Fumari guava! Handling it to load a bowl wasn't a pain at all, it was average effort. Lumber was present but not offensive like Al Waha. I think if AFGS or Qema pursued this flavor and intensified it, I think we would have the PERFECT red apple. I think if the juice was thicker and more concentrated with flavor, we would have it exactly! This is the right path but short. Grade: A-
HookahCulture
I'm wondering if we should use a 100 point grading system rather than school grades? They grade points with wines........ For instance, Al Waha would be low 80s, AFGS Esk (for me anyway) would be a 100. I know that some of you would give 2 specimens a B+ but which would be the BETTER B+? See what I mean? I know I could differentiate..... We could be as harsh and nitpicky as my university professors!
Mathazar
It's too bad you're so against Hookah-Hookah, because they've got the BEST Apple I've EVER tasted No licorice whatsoever, just pure green apple flavor. I just ordered some Al-Amasi Apple, Grape, and Strawberry. If this maassel turns out to be as AWESOME as the Al-Amasi Memory Mix, I'll be in HEAVEN
HookahCulture
I knew you'd say something like that haha! Speaking of Al-Amasi, has anyone tried the melon? It's the only Al-Amasi flavor at the store here and I need some input.
To100YearsToLate
I've got a good review for you: Abu Samra 13 Flavors in 1: I bought this at a tobacco shop next to the bank I work at on a whim. It was $14 bucks for a 450 gram jar, but after hearing the experiences people had with memory mix I decied this was close, and I needed a new flavor for a special event that night. I lit it up and wow. Didn't taste a mix of flavor, but a constant change in flavor. When I started it was more of a strawberry, then it moved to cherry, apple, mint, citrus, and licorice. I was blown away by licorice, it was awesome. And I hate licorice candy, but as a smoke its pleasant. Not too many stems in it, gooey but not too wet, thick smoke and a decent burn time with Golden Coals. On the new points system, I'd give it an
