mushrat
Since Smiley has ignored numerous requests to make a single thread for his "check this smoke out" posts by severalAdmins, he is taking a short vacation from the forum. Don't be offended if he is unable to reply to messeges from you for atleast the next 24 hours.
Erica
Yea... see the thing with this is, I could understand if, no one replied to it... but there were atleast 5 posts after he had posted it.... Which means people were interested.... *edited* And If I remeber correctly, you guys simply asked him to not do that, but didn't tell him if he did it again he would get a temp ban.... But I suppose there could have been a behind the scene conversation regarding that... I dunno.. just seems a little harsh.. but then again this is coming from someone that found his post today interesting...
critterchops
can you still private message? I'm in the middle of a trade with him!!!
mushrat
I agree, so why not simply start a thread, and then bump it by adding the newest smoke? You'll notice, he really uses it to point people to his blog, again. Which is in his sig. by way of a compromise to get him to stop posting everytime he added another entry. Remember, we're not here to be Smileys personal advertising space for his blog and forum every time he adds soemthing to it. This was something I thought had been worked out between the Admins. and Smiley, then he goes and just does it again like nothing had ever been said. Imagine if EVERY one of us posted a topic EVERY time we smoked a bowl or added soemthign to a myspace/facebook/blog we might have. A simple, reasonable request was made and deliberately ignored...He'll be back soon. Perhpas THIS time he'll know we're serious, and no matter who he is, he's supject to the same rules as everyone else.
mushrat
No, i suggest going to his web site and contacting him that way. Sorry.
Calcartman
I dont know if it was overly harsh, but i think if nothing else he should have a stickied thread. Its hard to make a thread, and dig it up to add on again every week. This is coming from someone who doesn't even bother to read his blog because it does not interest me. mushrat
Then everyone will want a sticky... You can find your own threads easy enough, just search for posts by your name in the search engine. It's what I do to bump the body adornment and my Brief review section when I needed to add to them. And it may be harsh for a 1st time offense, but its the 3rd time we've removed this type of thread with a quick pm each time and a longer pm as well. mushrat
I appriciate it. I would prefer not to have to play "cop". But atleast we have people to do it now, as opposed to the often out of control past, when we had NO Mods or Admins. It really was a simple and reasonable request...really. Macho555
I'm glad he finally got hit. Me and him exchanged a few harsh words over the fact he kept doing that, then he'd post three more threads, all about his latest smoke session. Then there was the constant "why is everybody beating up on me?" rants, that ended up with him leaving the forum for about an hour, then coming back with another three smoke session threads. SanguineSolitude
indeed. while i like reading his blog, i dont need to be alerted every time he adds something. i mean it would be nice if he would just copy past the blog entries into a thread. instead of saying man i just smoked an amazing orange session. and nothing else. yashman19
Yeah Erica, I sent him a friendly PM after his first couple of threads letting him know of the idea of a "Smiley Mega-thread" which he could bump to his hearts content whenever he added some new content. I also warned him that further continuation would result in a temp ban. Mind you this was all friendly, and not in a manner which I meant to offend. I never got a response, and then lo and behold, a new Smiley thread... I even went into his account and put his blog link into his sig, which I told him I was doing in one of his first three threads. Still no response. Hell, maybe he doesn't know how to check his PMs? Regardless, he knew what he was doing was annoying people. Like Macho said, he called him out on it, to which he really got defensive and a tad on the nasty side. Like Mushrat said, maybe after a temporary ban, he will understand that we wern't joking, and make his megathread? But I have a feeling his first reply back will be to let us know that he hates my guts and this forum is too mean to him etc etc... Taking bets, anyone? OPR234
I understand why Smiley gets to take a break, but I find it kind of rude to have it announced to the whole forum...

I found his new thread for every post to be annoying and am content with the decision of the mods. Someone has to be the example, and this thread serves as a warning without it being explicitly said. Smiley: when you read this... no i do not dislike you, i just think you have to learn to update a thread. People will read it! Edit your main post, and then bump your thread. Macho555
Oh hell no. When someone does something wrong, and get banned, everyone needs to know. That way, MAYBE the embarrasment of the situation will cause that person to straighten out and realize to take heed. Thats my take. Otherwise, like Mushy said, everyone will start posting the same manner in which he was, and no one will know that people are getting banned for it. Its like hanging the heads of thieves on your gate posts as a warning. At any rate, I take Yash's bet.

Better to think he simply ignored a request, rather than thinking he's a scammer or something like that.
mushrat
Or better to know that he can't even GET his pm until he is unbanned, let alone ignoring it or scamming people. My post was placed for the reasons I stated. To let everyone know that a Temp suspension was in place, why, and that he was not deliberately ignoring PM's during this time. Sonthert
To the casual onlooker, it might seem like we ban people without any provovaction. I can assure you, this isn't the case. We do discuss it in private and do send people comments and requests by PM, so as not to bring to public light things going on. Nobody has ever been banned without some measure of a mod or admin asking what's going on here? What do we need to do? We are looking out for the entire Forum. There have been several contacts made...no progress made, this is the first written warning.
PersianPride
I don't know a megathread would be confusing to work with. You would have to click on the last page and work your way backwards until for example you find the transition point where people stopped talking about the chocolate tobacco session and are talking about the new red bull session. mushrat
it's worked with other large threads..just requires a LITTLE effort on the part of the reader...shouldn't be too much of a strain for sophisticated, ecperienced, saavy forun readers like y'all.

mushrat
Benny, now there are usually a few positive responses to his "what i smoked today" posts. And i'm sure once he creates the mega thread when we unban him this afternoon, you'll find it creates a fair amount of traffic...
Erica
Well, I suppose it does make since if you guys have actually warned him about it privately... From a readers perspective it seemed like it was unwarranted.... Eh, I enjoy his blog *shruggs*
SanguineSolitude
i like his blog. if he posted what he posts in his blog as new threads that would be ok. but not simply saying. "i just smoked a great pina colada hookah" and thats it. then you have to go to his blog to find out what hes talking about. that has no place here.
