Non-QL Coals: Best?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I know that Golden's and 3 Kings are virtually the best QL coals but I know virtually nothing about natural coals. Which are best? Fingers? Japs? Which brand would you recommend?

Checked the reviews section and there seem to be a lot of decent ones so I can't decide.

Thanks guys.

I just had a few Romman natural coals literally blow apart on me while lighting them over a fire, so I wouldn't really recommend using those particular naturals. A lot of people swear by Japanese coals like Canary, but I've never used them, so I can't say. I normally just stick to Golden or 3 Kings quick lights to get the job done

I definitely prefer either Al Ajdad (found at Hookah-shisha) or Nour natural coals over Goldens or Quicklights. They burn longer, more evenly, and impart little to no flavors into the shisha.

However, for ease of use and when I travel with my hookah, yes, I absolutely still keep some Golden quicklights around

i personally prefer 3 kings over anything. im currently using a really crappy quik lite brand called 'Rolland'.they are horrible! they smell funky when lighting them and they give a wierd taste to the hookah for the forst 15 min of the hookah session...natural coals are just too messy and take to long to light.

I like natural coals. I really like the olive wood coals. I got a $10 electric stove from wal-mart. i put the coals on before i set up the hookah. By the time ive changed the water and loaded a new bowl the coals are almost ready to go. The olive wood coals don't smell when they heat up so you it do it indoors.
I like the Natural Lemmon wood coals myself.. but as mentioned. they can pop on you and fling an ember out on the floor.

I use them along with a windcover.... seems to have put an end to that prob.
I'll try putting a wind cover over them if I try again... I had a ~1.5 inch long piece literally explode into about 6 pieces, all over the floor (tile floor, so no big deal there)
