hookah tampering

I am considering starting a hookah lounge here pretty soon. One of the problems I have been thinking about / heard through people, is that there are a lot of places that get shut down due to people sneaking marijuana into their bowls that they are smoking. Yes I live in Oregon and it seems to finds its way everywhere.

Does anyone know of any ideas to keep people away from the bowls. I dont think that the wind cover would be able to stop alot of the people.

I would love to see if there are any other discussions that I couldnt find through the search feature (I tried so no yelling please).

I am open to any encouragement or other links to discussion on starting a new lounge would be great.

Hmmm... Well, if you foil it down good then it should be obvious if people are tampering with the hookah. I guess just make sure that everyone has their eyes open or something.

the smell alone will hint to you that they are trying.. also, try to hire people that sit at the bar or whatever and keep a lookout (Easy job)

I think keeping a close watch, and using larger pieces of foil tons of small holes (so it will rip when messed with) is the best you can do.

alot of lounges have a policy that if they see you messing with the foil for any reason they will ask you to leave. a big bouncer at the door who checks EVERY id will also give you a more respectful crowd. if its clear from the get go that rules must be obeyed then people generally will act accordingly. the places that let high schoolers in are just asking for trouble.

Also, you can smell when someone is smoking weed...follow your nose. The foil will be usually very obviously tampered with. Take it away and eject customers.

i know i was a bar (hookah) and after like 10 minutes of smoking i felt very odd.....i mean i got up and the walls were moving and i started to feel like i was high, mind you i didnt smell anything, ever since then i've never went back.

Also, have regular rounds made. The waiter or waitress going around often to check on coals or if other customers need anything, while also keeping a look out.
A fee for messing with the hookahs is also a good idea. If you have obvious signs about said fee posted, most people will be discouraged from messing with it at all.
A one-way mirror, obvious or not, will also help if you have a separate VIP lounge.

Cameras could be a good idea.. . because being able to check on people, it works great if you need records of what happened. Cameras don't lie.

As someone who's never even used weed, I have been to enough parties and concerts to know what it smells like and it's aroma is pretty distinct. I'd imagine that even in the turmoil that is a hookah bar, you'd be able to pick up the scent with a keen nose.

This isn't legal advice, but I think that also, putting up a sign about tampering with the hookah would set a precident that it's untolerated behavior.

on the menu or wherever you order the hookah from have its clearly printed that tampering with the foil and tobacco will not be tolerated. in fact put in the warning that if caught putting weed in the tobacco you will call the police. taking a hard line and making that obvious also helps if any incident does happen since if its clearly posted on every menu they cant try to weasel out of it or bs. to the cops.

Thats just the sort of thing that you need to lay the law down on. Most people that would try to sneak that into a hookah lounge are assholes anyway that think they are entitled to smoke because THE MAN said they shouldn't. In other words, idiots.

Well think about this, if you don't leave the tongs with the hookah, then how are they going to get the hot coals off to put the weed under the foil? Also weed is a very distinct smell... I should know my brother smokes it. I think though if you posted a sign, has the waitor take the tongs, and just have an eye out, you would be very unlikely to have someone bring some weed into your shop. When someone does try to bring weed into your place and use it, call the police. Be very hard with the rules regaurding this, cause if you aren't then the people will take over your shop.

At the olden days, at Xen, people would try shit like that, you can smell it. The only thing that will fuck with you is some mango flavors smell like weed.
