Qt smoke harsh with certain flavors ?

Recommended Posts

When I smoke shisha like AW-VINILLA, NAK-ORG, AW-COLA .... the smoke is way to harsh and I cannot seem to figure out why , and I have tried different combo's of foil and coals so I know it is not heat managment. I dont get it ? its not becuase of the brand Im pretty sure becuase AW-Cherry wasnt harsh. Does anyone else have problems with certain flavors out of a qt ?

Kram and i were smokin my QT last night and the night before.

On night one we did a bowl of Fumari Watermelon. It was OUT of this world! THick clouds for 2 hours or therabouts.
We used finger coals, broke them into smaller chunks and had 4 small pieces around the std mya bowl.

Last night we did the same combo of coals, and foil but with a nakhla sweet melon and nakhla mango.

Was incredibly harsh.

We then swapped it for a chunk of jap coals, same bowl of sweet melon, and it lost all harshness, and smoked much better then earlier.

Btw what the hell does "Nak-ORG" mean? Orange?

Benny.

Heat technique is everything, but the qt smokes all shishas well.

From fumari, to alwaha, al fakher, al qemah and nakhla.

it seemed to.

I couldnt get the nakh to smoke right on finger coals.... i admittedly didnt try a large chunk, but several smaller ones didnt work.

However with Jap coals or my Zoghal Ghaleb coals, it works flawlessly, as with star self-lighters.

I have been using the golden quicklights and I have always had sucess on breaking it in half after I light it and placing two 1/2 chunks on the bowl and it has never failed, except with my qt on those flavors I listed, I would experiment more but I dont have money to buy more shisha or coals and Im down to just vinilla and orange , but I use my bigger hookah for those, and only one roll of coals sad.gif(

use yyour Bigger hookah's bowl on the QT if you can. Different bowls have diff heat dynamics.

Mya bowls dont take alot to get very hot, so maybe consider less coal? Most typical bowls are clay, and thick. Mya bowls are thin porcelaine.

Good luck in your shisha quest, i had the same initial problems. Also make sure u leave a gap between the foil and shisha on the mya bowl, and try using 2 layers of foil, it may help

I think that I have tried the clay bowl on my qt but I dont remember if I did it with the shisha that was giving me problems. I have a large clay one Ill try next if I get the chance, but I am selling my qt for 50 bucks with no hose this week smile.gif. I am getting my money back for it since I never use it but when I get another job I will buy more hookahs and expand my collection.

I don't think it really has much to do with the type of hookah you are using, I think it has to do with the the way you pack your bowl, heat managment, coal, and what kind of tobacco you use...

I'm with Erica on this one.. it's dependant on how you set it up.. With my QT, if I'm smoking AW, I use the standard generic clay bowl, and cram the tobacco in pretty tight, with a good amount of heat.. If i'm smoking AA or AF, it's lightly sprinkled into the QT bowl, with less heat... Both then give the same smoke thickness and quality.

try some quicklights, I am a big fan of 3kings. I never get bad taste from them if done right. Its just the heat management like people have said. Try less coals.

Also, OJ means orange wink.gif just for future reference. ORG is original.

I kept getting harshness from my QT as well, I use a single whole 33mm 3kings at a time, which cooked the hell out of it. Using a double layer of foil helped me out a TON because breaking coals is difficult to get right and messy. Try a double layer of foil and let us know how it works.
