Funnel Bowl success! i heart this bad boy!!!!

Recommended Posts

hey hookah-holics! just got back from my buddies house and our latest smoke session. after acclimating the melon blend i got from scott for about 4 hours and packing it into my newly purchased funnel, i had the best tangiers session ever! i packed it lightly making sure all sides are touching, SLIGHTY packed it down. put foil over it and put a larger hole with a toothpick in the dead center. poked a ring of holes around the perimeter. lit 3 sultan japanese coals (these work pretty good, the silver coating comes off easily but sadly dont last very long). and went to town.

it took a bit longer to get the bowl goin but once its going, ohh man! the flvaor was rich and full (melon blend is yummy, but tangy's watermelon taste better IMO), helluva lot smoother than i have been gettin tangiers to smoke, and nice puffy clouds. there were a few rounds where it got a little bit harsh, but nowhere near as harsh where you cant even take a small puff and your coughin up your lungs. it lasted about 40 mins only because my friend bought fumari nectarine and we wanted to give that a whirl as well.

overall im extremely satisfied with the bowl. on my first try i got it working like a charm and it took no trouble at all 2 get goin. i figured you would have to draw a little more given the design but that wasnt the case. for those who have been comtemplating getting one, GO GET ONE NOW! i will def use this when smoking tangiers from here on out. sadly my regular tangiers bowl will start collecting dust lol.

Congrats mang! I too have been tinkering with my newly purchased funnel bowl from MN. I read through the numerous funnel bowl topics, took all the advice most people gave and it's been working really well. Only difference in your preperation compared to mine was the holes. I did poke a small circular set of holes where the funnel is (as apposed to your one larger hole in the middle), and in addition to the holes around the perimeter, I put an additional ring of holes between the perimeter and the center.

When I tried putting only one larger hole in the middle and one ring around the perimeter, there wasn't enough air able to be pulled through easily, so the foil would concave inwards, causing my natural fingers (which are cylindrical) to roll towards the middle, causing too much heat in one spot, thus burning the baccy. But since you say you're using japanese coals which have a flat surface, you wouldn't have my same problem.

I also realized that you really must use less heat compared to other brands of tobacco. I NORMALLY like to use two pieces of finger coals (~2.5-3" in length) on my bowl, but with tangiers tobacco this was way to much. So instead I used the same amount of coal, but instead broke them in half and just used small chunks and evenly spaced them out around the perimeter of the bowl. Works 10x better than in the past when I tried tangiers and didn't have much sucess before.

Now I'm LOVING my tangiers tobacco.

I'm loving the hell out of my new phunnel too. I've only had four sessions with it thus far, but I have absolutly no reason or desire to go back to my mod or show bowl...I havn't yet smoked my tangy out of it, but I have full intention too. It's made all my other smokes SO much longer and better.

its recommended that you poke a hole in the center then proceed to poke holes around the perimeter like a regular bowl. there are quite a few threads with diagrams on how people poked holes for the funnel bowl. the easiest one to find, if im correct is under the review section in the tangiers thread. on my first go with the bowl i poked a larger than normal hole with a toothpick in the center and poked smaller ones all round. see what works for you.
