Tealight Method

Ok so I saw the video of the tealight method ( I dont speak german but I think "Teelicht" means "tealight". So I got some tealight candles and I tried it out. Here are some pics:

First you want to cover the bottom layer of the bowl with foil. You dont really ahev to but in the video thats what he does so thats what I tried. Cover the bottom layer with a strip of foil and poke holes where the bowls holes are ( duh right?). In the video he double layers his foil, but I dont like wasting foil so I single layered everything.

Next you load your shisha like you normally do then you warp your bowl like you normally do. Again I only used one layer as opposed to the video, which used two layers.

Then I took a box cutter and cut a Rhombus shape out of the foil. You could use a sharp knife or whatever you have, and I would also presume that you could cut a cylinder if you wanted to instead of a quadrilateral.

Next find a Tealight candle just like this

You can find them at places like Wal-mart, or michaels and they come in a big ass bag. I think theyre like 2 or 3 bucks a bag, cheap as hell.

Next you want to either burn the candle out or just physically rip the candle out with a knife or fork or whatever you have. Once the candle is completely out youll want to rinse the tin in warm water to lift up the remaining candle wax( you dont want to smoke wax...well maybe YOU do, but I dont hah). Then you will cut a circle in the middle and poke a bunch of holes around the circumference so it likes alot like the one below:

Next you flip the prepared tealight candle upside down then place it ontop of the cylinder or rhombus ( whichever shape you choose to use). below I used a square (which is an equilateral quadrangle, in math terms).

heres anotehr shot of it from the side

Next wrap anotehr layer of foil over the tealight candle and the bowl and make sure the tealight candle stays centered with the hole that you cut out. Poke some holes where the tealight sandle end rests, I happened to just use the box cutter to poke the holes.

Then light some coals, and place them onstop of the tealight candle. I think round coals such as quik lights will work perfect, but I only had finger coals on hand but smaller pieces worked just as well. Smoke and ejoy!

it smoked the same. The same thickness of smoke, same buzz, etc.
HOWEVER, that session was only about 30 min, but when I cleane dthe bowl out only about 1/10 of the shisha was burned because the heat from the coals were in a concentrated point instead of all over the bowl.

So I theorize that you could smoke a bowl of prem shisha, like starbuzz or tangiers, for a good 3 hours. Of course youll have to relight some coals while you do.

Ok, as a german, i'll tell you something about that ... many people use it over here. It's good for small bowls, if you've got tang heads or other big ones, you don't have to do. It wouldn't work well because the way from the coal to the shisha would be too long, the tobacco wouldn't get enough heat to smoke good.

BUT : If you try it, take a tealight that's never been used before. Except that, before using, you have to burn the tealight-form out, so that there's no wax in anymore. If there are still wax-rests in it, it will taste like that, and smoking wax is not so healthy i think wink.gif

sorry for my english.

I understand what youre trying to say. What happens is the heat from the coal gets focused on one point instead of spread out which generates enough heat to burn that little section of shisha. So even though the coal is further away from the bowl, it creates enough "concentrated" heat to brun the shisha. And since the instead of the bowl is warpped with foil as well as out, the foil distributes the heat around the bowl as the top layer of shisha burns out

Its the same form of physics as why you can hammer a nail into concrete but not a log of wood. A nail is a small concentrated point, as opposed to the log of wood. Although Im not a scientist.

But ive only tried this method once, and it worked just as well. Although I wonder if you know who started this trend and why people do it over there in germany, Im very curious man.

Greetings from teh US of A.

I also make this from time to time. Its better for the tobacco and the tobacco will burn slower but with the same smoke. Great for Nakhla and also for layalina and fakher tobacco. dont try it yet with tangiers or starbuzz.

Heres another tealight method tutorial. Its just in german. you can translate it with google or i will translating it if you like biggrin.gif

how bout making a bigger ring and doint it, that way itll use up the whole bowl instead of just that one concentrated part. It would be like using one of those bowl covers only with the charcoal on top of the cover instead of inside.

Ill try it this weekend and post up pictures when I do so you can see what im talkin bout and let you know how it works.

then the point of concentrating the heat on one spot is gone.
