i poked two rows of holes around the outside and 3 small holes in the middle. then i took 3 three kings quik lights and spaced them evenly around rotating them 15 min. I then took off one of the coals and just left the other two in position and about every 30 min rotated the coals. Had a good smoke throughout. Hope this helps..

It's not black magic like many make it out to be. Probably the easiest way for you to find out how much heat you're going to need is to start out with what you use for other brands, burn the tobacco and scale it back from there. When I used to use 3K charcoal, I got the best results with Tangiers when breaking it into thirds; the coal doesn't last as long and is messier, but the heat is spread out more evenly to prevent burning the tobacco.

Something else to try is to break the leaves up more; Tangiers is usually fairly compacted when you get it. Try unrolling the leaves versus having them all mashed together. Hopefully you'll find what works and get to enjoying the tobacco; it's one of the best when it's smoking right. smile.gif

I used to agree with aron that breaking up the big leaves helps, but now i dont believe that as much. I get wonderful results by just using the tobacco as is, still the tobacco up with a fork while its still in the ub until it becomes nice a shiny from all the juices (if its acclimated properly it should appear kinda dry at first but then the more you store the more shiny it''l get). then just take a bowl sized glab of it and drop it in, no thining or sprinkling, just sortof drop it in and then spread it a little so it fills out evenly. Fill the whole bowl up then put on the foil and sort of roate the palm of your hand around the foil to give it a despression so its evenly pressing on the tobacco. Poke two circle of holes around the bowl, one on the outside, one on the inside near the edge of the "phunnel spout" making sure to push the poker all the way through to the bottom of the bowl, then one hole in the center. When I've used three kings one whole coal seemed to do the trick then fine tune the heat by movin the coal towards or away from the center, i usualy find it best to have the coal right on the edge so that the clay of the bowl is also heating up a bit. Now this all said you still sometimes get that rare bowl thats harsh because of a climate shift in your area, but i've always been able to get thick smoke with that method, just I'd say 1 out of every 5 or 6 bowls will be a little harsh and thats when i know to let the tobacco reacclimate again.
