Outside Coals

Recommended Posts

So right now I"m using quick light golden coals and quite disappointed with them. It taks awhile to get them going, and they don't seem to get hot enough. Over thanksgiving I'm going down south where walmart and target are 5 minutes away instead of 45 (thats right where I live the closest walmart and target are 45 minutes away in opposite directions) and I will be purchasing a camp stove and/or small blow torch to light coals outside.

My hookah is an outside only hookah, and for various reasons my stove is off limits for coal lighting, and there is no outlet outside so, what coals are good for camp stoves or small blow torches? Where can I find them (aka where should I order online)? How hot do I need to get the coals, when will I know when the coals your recomending are done? (All I know is you wait till quick lights are mostly red/orange and not sparking alot to put them on the foil).

Thanks!

I know this is isn't really your question...but have you tried any other quicklights, namely 3 Kings? I use them, and they work very well, lighting in about a minute, and they get hot enough. And I don't know what everyone else does, but I always wait until the coal is a greyish color until using it, to make sure I get even burning.

I've got a ghetto rigged method that I use. I use a gel like Sterno, and put some in a metal jar, light it, and then use my tongs and a glove to hold the coals over it until they're lit enough that I can gently blow them till they're fully lit.

I thought my Golden coals burned hotter than the Three Kings I have now

i use like... a bic lighter.

And the coal will spark.
then you sit and hold it for a while.
and it'll start to turn orange.

thats the wonderful thing about quicklight charcoals.
they light quickly.

and it works fine. lol.

I use Japanese style quicklights, or natural coals, and a propane blowtorch. Cost me 15 bucks at Ace Hardware, and extra tank of propane was 3 bucks. I've been using the first tank for nearly 2 months now.
