interest in hookah art?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find artists that are interested in making hookah art and I am making this thread to gauge the interest of forum members in what the likelihood would be of them buying any quality original and/or quality prints.
Please post your thoughts on how this would apply to yourself. I will be sending a link to this thread to potential artists.
I myself love art and have several original oil painting, none hookah related, but I for one would love to have some hookah art for my study.

Post whether or not you like the idea. Not everybody would be interested and you can say that. You could also be specific as to what specific kind of art, oil paintings, charcoal, etc. as well as descriptions of what would be the ultimate setting and subjects.

<EDIT> Decided to add hookah are pics as I find them. I like some of these, but most are not my idea of what I am looking for as far as displaying on a wall.

Hmmm. Maybe we're the only art collectors on this forum Scalli... patience I guess! I was hopin' there was some interest in this because I think it's a very cool idea.

Weekends can be a little slow on the forum sometimes. All the drunkards have hangovers and stuff. I will check back after the Excedrin kicks in wink.gif

I had what I think it a great idea for a painting. Have a harem of pretty gals in the belly dancing looking outfits in a room in a palace and their king is passed out in his big chair with a bottle in his lap indicating what caused that. And all the harem girls are partying and dancing and smoking the hookah. Maybe one of them trying to bust a move on a very nervous kingsman that has his eye on the king as though he really hopes he does not wake up about now smile.gif

If someone really wanted to they could right click on the picture they like and save to their laptop and then print as big as their printer could handle.

Not that I'm saying this is something that people should do (think copywrite laws)

For any general art enthusiasts here is most of what I have. What I like is that most of it is very unique and the originals are one of a kind. www.scalliwag.com/art/art.html I put notes on the pieces at the bottom of each page.

that is some great photography bro. You could do some pics of some old hookahs and with your eye i am quite sure yo can come up with much better ideas than I ever could.

thanks guys! its always nice to hear that ones work is appreciated; its what us artists strive to hear.

i think that even a nice black stargate/mod hookah would be an excellent subject for a still life / "portrait". with the right lighting and camera position these hookahs could jump off the image. i can see it in my minds eye, but i have no time to implement it...

we shall see

thanks again!

absolutly! i live in San Luis Obispo, California. just a question, what camera are you using? cause i find that as long as you are able to have some sort of manual control of the aperature and shutterspeed you should be set. composition is really one of the main things to focus on....

let me know where you're at....

yea no where near that XD Dallas, Texas.

And the camera im using is mainly a P&S, but a higher model so i got a few options, mainly controlling exposure and shutter speeds, but nothing beyond that. Took me months to learn how to trick the camera to get my desired DOF.

And yea i understand about content, most of my work is just practice work, all my really good ideas for photos ive had are written down in a lil book, which is getting full XD waiting for me to get a better camera, and learn more about photography. I edited in my flickr address above if you want to look at my work there, and here it is again tongue.gif http://www.flickr.com/photos/coreyeacret/

So I have been learning how to use a 3D program called blender and I figured I would try to use my skills to make a hookah, so I did for the most part. I still have to create the bowl and I want to color the base, but with lines like the social smoke base. Here is a render of hookah. This took me about an hour so far. I will update the post with the full render. Note to IE users: this image uses transparencies, which may not be supported by IE so you might get a random blue background.

Here is the render:

I've been activly seeking "non-traditional" hookah art for the bar. While I can find a fair number of "slave girl" and "harem" pictures, I'm looking for more contemporary stuff that isn't aslo 60's drug related.

Found a great marx brothers one on e-bay and willl be getting a Casablanca Poster someone pointd me to...

Needless to say anyone come up with some nice modern looking hookah pictures or scenes, lemme know.

On a side note, I'm looking for a picture to use as my Bar logo. I have someone working on it but i think she's going to end up not doing it in the end, which is going to piss me off and then I'm going to have to scramble.

The logo i;m looking for is a hookah with a mya qt like base, a stacked dagwood sandwich for the main body of the hookah, and a tray and bowl on top of that. 2 hoses coming out of the sandwich part making 2 "S"'s fr SmokeStackers.

[attachment=151:Dagwood.jpg]

Its simple yet effective.

Really bad rendition but you get the idea:
