MYA screw in case set, $99

I got the following set this weekend at a retail shop. $99. I havent seen prices like it so I went for it. this setup here.



Mine has a frosted red vase.... it has the ports for 4 hoses.

Got it over to Mom's place and fired it up Sat night after a wash..... it had a harsh chemically taste to it..... I trued again last night after a proper scrub..... seems to have killed the annoyance. Theres a negligable airleak somewhere I will track down sometime this week.

I was really excited to get a "real" MYA...... I was truly dissapointed with the QT I got earlier this year.... it seems that the crappy purgability is a standard trait..... I was really let down by that.

Otherwise. the thinkg is rock solid and breaks down nicely so it can be cleaned in even the smallest sink.

One thing that really pissed me off was that the bottom of the bowl seat is not big enough around to clamp down the ashplate...... lemme guess..... Im supposed to expect the grommet to do that like a QT........... heheh... screw that!.... I gotta get me a washer while at the hardware store today.

Anyway........ I think the thing is rock solid..... unfortunatley, MYA could really use some modifications and THEN they would damn near be the perfect hookah. Pretty and solid doesnt make up for less than stellar function.

The sad fact is that some $60 Syrians I have pulled out of the box smoke better than this..... shame.. I was expecting to have that ultimate satisfaction that some folks get from the big MYA's

Hey Lake, check the extra hose ports for the leak you mention. I got a Mya with the same type of stem not too long ago (with the extra ports), and that is where I am getting a slight air leak too. It does not affect performance one bit for me though. Nice hookah you picked up there.

see this is the only hang up I have with myas. Every gets an air leak or some kind of issue with them. And having 30+ myas with issues is going to be more of a pain in my ass than anything else.

This is interesting to me because every MYA I have ever owned/smoked was an air-tight beast of a pipe. Sounds like they need to work on their quality control.

Have you contacted MYA? My bet is that they will replace it at no cost

yea same here.. never had a problem and if things broke mya would send free replacements within 2 days

More parts = more places for problems.

The problem is, how do you provide more features using less parts?

I tinkered with it just 15 minutes ago and found that I am lacking an O ring. I am going to look the other port plugs over later by submerging the heart and locking off the bottom and purge valve port with my hand and thumb........ then blowing thru the bowl end.... should find it like looking for leaks in a tire.

Chances are that I will call MYA up and beg a few more replacement O rings so that I can double up at a leak point.

Whilst I have them. Im gonna get the 411 on the whole ashplate thing...

What I did do this afternoon is taking a tubing cutter to the bottom of my downstem to shorten it up... I prefer less airspace in the jar than the way it comes.... so if anything is wrong with that........ then thats all me. Tomorrow I will drill some small holes in the bottom of the downstem and find something to restrict the bottom opening by at least 50% . Im a diffuser guy.

I'll try to post a MYA modding thread with pics and instructions for each mod..... so you folks will have something to drool over besides the Turkey and Cran on Thanksgiving.
