hookah hippie
Okay my favorite coals are Nour finger coals I went to a shop and bought these coals called AL Adjad finger coals besides the name the bag is identical to the nours These new coals are harder to break and harder to light has anyone ever heard of these
EvansLight
Hmm could be an off brand trying to copy Nour... its not unheard of having copycats in the hookah world.
Captain Courageous
yeah, I was shocked when I got thoes coals in the mail at first because I bought them thinking that they were Nour. But after getting them I found out that they were called Al Ajdad. I was all like "what the fuck!?" and still am. I wish I could know what is up with this. But yeah. I had a hard batch of them before too but the ones that I have right now are the direct opposite... they all break very very easily. Even though it's not Nour afterall I love them just as much. Here is a picture that I took of it, lol...
NorthEastSmoker
I've smoked with both, and as far as heat created and being tasteless, they are identical. I think the Al Ajdad put a little more heat into the tobacco, due to the fact that there is more surface area of the coal touching the bowl (traingle shaped, vs. the round of the Nour).... Mogwai
i love the bag. That looks pretty sweet.
Captain Courageous
I just think that it's funny how the bags look identical to one another... I mean, mabie it's just me to have gotten confused when ordering the Al Ajdad to have thought I was actualy ordering Nours... I am slow like that, lol. I mean look at the two... no one in their right mind could have gotten the two confused between eachother but me, lmao.
LuxOR541
I actually bought a bag of Al Adjad coals here locally a while ago. So far I like them... they're actually my first experience with natural coals though, so I'm only comparing them to quicklights.
skiracerj1
I got a bag like that once too, in all honesty, for me at least, I thinkthey work a little better than the nours, but thats probably just a personal thing
Captain Courageous
about two or three years ago I would always buy Nour myself... only Nour, Nour all the time. Nour were my coals... but then something happened and they stopped shipping out for awhile because of some issues with the company or something. Then I just couldent find them anymore so I switched to Al Ajdad coals when I mistook them for being Nours online. Ever since I have been satisfied with Al Ajdad to ever desire changing coal brands. So far I have been through 5 bags of Al Ajdad coals and had probably been through alittle bit more than that of the Nour and to me there is no different except Nour was perfectly round and Al Ajdad are triangular shaped... which to me is even better because a quite a few times with Nour in the past the coals would just roll right off of the bowl while smoking since they were round. There are gonna be bad batches of the product here and there... I have been through a few myself. It just happens now and then but at least it seems with Nour and Al Ajdad the only thing bad about them from time to time is that some batches are hard to break apart... that's about it. [LB]
its probably the same company with two versions- maybe one is european and one is american, considering the meaning of the two names. Just a guess.
ksblazer
Hey Captain Courageous: How much do the Al Ajdads cost you? There is a store at the mall that sells them for $10. I think thats an OK deal. I mean if Nours go for $8 and I have to ship them they will cost me more than $10. I really want to give natural coals a try soon. hookah hippie
I have continued to smoke my Al ajad coals They have started to grow on me they are still hard to break but i believe that it is because i leave them in my car and they become frozen and a question everone says nours are perfectly round the nours that i bought were the same triangle shape of my al ajad
skiracerj1
I've bags that had nour on them that were triangular too, I dunno what the deal with that is, but most nours or round
Captain Courageous
@ ksblazer: that sounds expensive but I am not sure of what I bought mine for really, lol. I just ordered a bundle of three bags from hookah-shisha.com
Sonthert
Yeah, the old Triangular coals. They just ran them through a different extruder. There was a company making triangular finger coals , I forget the name. Maybe Nour bought their old stock or their extruder.
Erica
hahah that guy on the bag sure does seem to be enjoying his hookah. I want to smoke. =o(
Captain Courageous
@ PK: thoes might be Nour or Al Ajdad actualy. On each of the bags is english writing on one side and (dont truly know the name of) the other traditional writing on the other side.
PK
Bringing back another semi-old thread. Can someone point me in the right direction on the way to get the most out of these Al Ajdad naturals? I read in another thread that each finger should be broken in 3. I took a 1/3 piece and placed on bowl (covered most of the bowl) but there wasn't enough heat. I'm new to naturals and can use some assistance with this. Any tips for new Natural users? Captain Courageous
Al Ajdad coals are still the only coals that I have been using what so ever when I smoke and I use the same tactics these days as always before. I always use three coals to start the bowl and throughout the entire session unless it gets harsh and I may temporarily take one coal off only leaving two until the smoke returns to normal.I always break two of the coals into smaller pieces... only about one finger width wide an the third I always use a bigger piece... mabie just under two finger widths wide. I then place them upon the foil of my bowl in a triangular patturn keeping them close to the corners to keep the heat even and to prevent burning... and if you have a few people smoking and want the bowl to last have a fourth coal lit as well... with its size being pretty much right at 2 finger widths wide. This works for me... it always has. I am sure many others would do it quite different but I will always smoke shisha this way *nods nods*
PK
Thanks for the response, but I'm still confused. These fingers are roughly how long? 6-7 inches or so? Breaking these into smaller pieces roughly 2 - 2 1/2 inches should get roughly 3-4 pieces per finger. I used one piece roughly 2-3 inches long and placed it on top the foil of a standard MYA bowl. These coals are wide and triangular, so it pretty much covered most of the bowl. It still didn't produce enough heat to get me smoke. Captain Courageous
yeah, defenantly use more than just one piece. Try three pieces spread out over the top of the bowl leaving the very center of the foil uncovered. I never measure the pieces I break really... or break up entire coal pieces at a time but as I know you are an experianced shisha smoker just use what size coals you would feel to be appropriate. For sure what it seems to me is that with natural coals you need much more coal to get the job done rather than with quicklights *shrugs*
ksblazer
I break them into about 2'' peices and use one one the top and one on the bottem of the bowl. Rotate to the sides about 20 minutes later. Then in another 20 min rotate back to top and bottem, 20 minutes later back to the sides. Seems to work well for me, except on Tangiers. So I use different coals on Tangiers.
camelflage
yeah, im guessing nour bought al ajdad or vice versa, because we got a shipment in at the bar one day and our bags of al ajdad coals were suddenly triangular instead of round. at first we were upset cause we thought it would be a nightmare, but we quickly figured out that putting a 1.5 inch piece and a .5-.75 inch piece will keep your bowl going without burning it up. my last home shipment was triangular as well, and im still smokin' strong Edited January 2, 2007 by camelflage
hookah hippie
I do like the triangle shape opposede to the round wood coals because the round sometimes rolls and upsets me
