Smoking times for different brands

Recommended Posts

Ok i was wondering how long each brand of sisha smokes for... I tried to figure it from the review section but it wasn't very helpful because some people have half sessions some people have a few people smoking some use those huge tangier bowls......
excluding those huge ass phunnel bowls i'm talking about regular aprox 15 g bowls... if somone has expereimented with this b4 please tell is about it... and if the flavor kept up...

You're asking quite a bit, simply because like you said there are different factors that can change the results. Every single person here probably packs their bowl differently ie tighter/loser. Everybody here uses different hole patterns (many holes which lets in more air and burns the tobacco faster, fewer holes which allows less air in and a slower burn time). Different amounts of heat (more coals=faster burn time, less=longer burn time), and even the different types of coals burn hotter from each other.

So me telling you how long my Al Amir smoked for, even if I used the same size bowl as someone else, could have huge varying differences from another persons experience. Honestly not trying to be rude, just letting you know that you should probably narrow your search down.

Probably the most obvious outlier is Tangiers tobacco. Definitely lasts much longer, and can go on for multiple hours if you keep feeding it heat. Other than that, I haven't really noticed a difference between my other brands of tobacco in duration.

Like Yash said its not such a simple matter, its like string theory, there are 29 of them and all are correct but have different answers. Any brand can be make to produce thick long lasting smoke if used properly, but to shortly answer your question, Tangiers and Fumari both seem to last really long with consistent flavor.

To answer your question I must give you a question to find out the approx. smoking time use this simple equasion aXbXcXdXe=x
a=the bowl size
b=how many coals
c=your favorite number
d=the weather in Utah
e=how long you can sit next to a hookah
x=the time stopped minus the time started

just having some fun
buy a couple of different brands and smoke a few bowls

You forgot F=Which day it is!!!

Seriously though. Too many factors affect it. But as a rule of thumb...

I have not found a brand/flavour that won't go for 1 & 3/4 Hrs.
Layalina, Al Fakhir, Al Amir, Afzal, Nahkla Will all smoke for around the 2hour mark quite happily.

Holy crap man you look exactly like this guy:

But to answer you question, exluding massive variation with charcoal and so forth, the cheapers brands like Nakhla and Al waha last about 35 minutes. And the more expensive brands can last close to 50 minutes. Thats my general experience.

haha, so to do a sample equation:
a=.025kg
b=2 coals
c=72
d=?
e= 60min
x=60min
so that means the weather in utah = .2778 coals*(kg)^-1, god I'm a nerd, stupid engineering school, look what you've done to me

If I can help sidhucer out here, I'm going to assume most people have used the same set up ie hole pattern, coals, bowl size, for varyious kinds of tobacco. Using this same set up, which kind of tobacco do you find lasts longer than others?

Being new to the smoking arena myslef, I'm not sure, but I'll bet Tangiers lasts longer than most.

Another one of the biggest factors is how much you are smoking it... if it's just you or one or two people passing around casually, it will certainly last longer.

That said, I can get 2 hours if i'm careful about heat management from most top quality brands like AF and havana (haven't tried tangiers or starbuzz or fumari yet) a little less from al amir, and maybe 35-45 minutes from al waha. There are also a lot of variation within brands. I have gotten batches of al waha that smoked for well over an hour, and some that the flavor was ass after 20 minutes.

Hookah hookah has never lasted more than 15-20 minutes for me before the juice is all evaporated and it starts burning, which tastes like the aforementioned posterior orifice.

Rommann has been hit or miss. It seems to be VERY temperamental about heat. Too little and it won't smoke at all, too much and it goes quick. My best luck was with rommann licorice, with 3 quicklight halves around the bowl towards the outside edge and moved closer to the middle as i smoked longer. That lsted almost 2 hours, and the flavor actually made it to the end. Most of the rommanns i have tried though have been a little weak on the flavor side, but I have liked the licorice and the orange.
