Aluminum: Combined Threads. New And Old.

Recommended Posts

I was doing some research on Alzheimers disease and I found a considerable amount information linking aluminum to the disease. Here is an example:

http://www.niehs.nih.gov/external/faq/aluminum.htm

It just makes me wonder. I know that the aluminum under our coals barely burns if it burns at all, but even a small amount of aluminum in the smoke accumulated over time might be something to think about. I think I might be switching to screens here pretty soon.

I also hear that there is special hookah foil that isn't made out of aluminum. Has anyone seen this around?

the aluminum thing has been discussed ad maseum on this forum, do a search for it, but i think the general consensus was that it really wasnt a problem because even it was getting burned it would be the heaviest of the molecules burning and would filter out in the water, that plus most commerical foils have a thin coating and thats what produces the black marks on the foil, now if its an ashy white then youve started to burn the foil

does the water truly filter anything? has anyone checked this at all? i personally believe the water is just there to make the cool noise. it doesnt filter shit. i think wed better get that fact straight before we start saying it.

The link between aluminium and Alzheimer's Disease is probably rubbish, there really isn't enough evidence to support the hypothesis... Alzheimer's is primarily due to amyloid plaques and protein tangles forming in your brain, which stops signals getting through properly... like pretty much every non-trauma related disease, it's partly genetic, some people are more or less high predisposed towards getting it; and it's partly environmental... oxidising agents, for example, can lead to it... such as the heap of junk in smoke.
[laughs] I'm still going to keep smoking my hookah in any case... have to die of something, might as well be something you enjoy.

Im not worried about it.... mainly because i use screens anyways. Also they have ways to cure alzheimers, only if you catch it VERY early. There working on a full one for all. Grandmother died of it, done alot of research into it biggrin.gif

This, i believe, came from the alumiun in tea. And the British love drinking a shed load of the stuff!

I am led to believe it is the ingesting of aluminum that is the problem. And since you are only really heating it up
and not burning it, i doubt it's an issue.

i dunno darth, the water does do some filetering- otherwise it wouldnt be so dirty after your hookah session. I mean clearly it wont do alot of filtering but it might do a little bit. Now you can buy hookah filters that work really well- that actually filter out a shitload of bad particles, my friend had one and he said the filter would be completely saturated after about 3 sessions, and that he still got massive hits through his filter.

Now about aluminum foil, it is uncapable of releasing its harmful toxins simply because the charcoals do not burn hot enough./.

You know what else has aluminum? Underarm deodorants and antipersperants. How often do you (hopefully) use deordorant? If you are feeling a little paranoid about aluminum and alzheimers, you could always eat better quality foods. Supposedly you are twice as likely to develop alzheimers if you eat a lot of saturated and hydrogenated fats.

its a proven fact. american men are unable to die until they turn 25. this is especially true when it comes to drinking too much and driving too fast.

sure there are a few (thousand) outliers a year, but noone pays much attention to them.

The third paragraph of your citation is referring to studies done on people who drink water that is treated with aluminum sulfate. Those people consume more than 20x the amount of aluminum that we do and don't show an increase in Alzhemier's.

IF aluminum does pose a health risk, then the steel in bowl screens poses a larger one...aluminum doesn't vaporize, wheras iron does and is poisonous and linked to short-term problems.

  • 4 months later...
It has been awhile since one of these were done and I would like to add smileys glass screen into the mix becuase last time it was jus foil or screen..

I am jus going to go with good old foil. I like the glass screen but right now i smoke quicklights and i'd rther use japs with the glass screen so maybe i will have a change a heart in 2 months when i run out of coals ohmy.gif Edited by ASUSEAN1

Never used the glass screen, but I've used both the regular metal screens and foil, really I'm indifferent about it but I vote foil just because it's easier to get off of the bowl when it's hot and I like poking the little holes in it :-p

used a screen once, it caused the shisha to get the shit burned out of it and it tasted like ass. Just way too direct of a method cause normal metal screens absorb way too much heat. I think i used steel though, maybe it would be different with an alum screen.
