Luke69
Does a dissfuser make a big difference or any difference? What is that difference?
DizzyGuy
It's quieter and more bubbles theoretically means that the smoke gets cooler and filters the smoke more.
yashman19
Sort of from a scientific point of view, because a diffuser makes thousands of tiny bubbles as apposed to a few big normal bubbgles, more surface area of the bubbles are exposed, and this somehow filters better and improves taste. Of course I made my own diffuser to try it out, and the ONLY thing I noticed was that the hookah was almost dead silent. I couldn't taste a single difference in the flavor or smoke thickness. The smoke thickness was virtually the exact same.
EvansLight
As yash said, the only diffrence thats even noticable is the fact that the hookah is almost completly silent. Im working on a way to really make the best diffuzer, im thinking of a way to get the smallest possible bubbles

Macho555
I made a few, but only one of them seems to do anything for me. It's not even a "small bubble" diffuser. I need to take pictures now that I think about it.
yashman19
QUOTE (.cOLt.45.)lool whats a diffuser Pretty much something that you'll need to fabricate yourself (as everyones downstem will vary from others) that fits onto the bottom of your downstem and sticks in the water, and basically will have multiple small holes drilled into it, as apposed to the one big bubble that you get from any standard hookah. When you pull through your hose, millions of tiny air bubbles will be produced instead of the larger bulky ones. Now this is where people's experiments vary. Some say they noticed a great difference in the amount of flavor, smoke etc, but the ONLY thing I noticed a difference in was the silencer effect it had. You almost can't tell your hookah is working because the bubbling sound is virtually gone. Pretty neat, but I prefer the bubbling noise on my hookah. It was worth making one, but not at all necessary.

I've made a couple out of pen caps and hose tips.. the only thing they do for me is make the hookah a touch quieter and give me something to do with power tools for 20 minutes

DizzyGuy
Lol, i look for any excuse to use power tools, whether i get something accomplished or not I need to try to make a diffuser for my QT... does anyone know where I can find that piece that screws onto the stem and goes down into the vase? I want an extra one of those to experiment with
yashman19
I just remembered another great use for the diffuser. On my stargate, due to the odd shape of the base, if you filled the base even the slightest bit too high, water from the bubbling got into the hose and up into my mouth. Well with a diffuser, this is no longer a problem because of the small bubbles. Much smaller bubbles creates less movement in the base, and the water remained at a very low level. I'm not sure, but I just remembered that from reading your post Dizzy. Think it was because someone else had a problem with the QT bubbling up too high. DizzyGuy
That's one of the things I was thinkg about, yash... I had some trouble with my stargate when I first got it. I'd like to make a diffuser for my QT because, while I haven't had trouble bubbling up in my QT, I wanna make the water level higher. ALSO, espeically with that damn phunnel that doesn't offer any sound buffer, the QT can get kinda loud
Sonthert
Ya know, I have noticed that Egyptian pipes tend to bubble louder than Syrian pipes. They also have much longer downtubes...maybe the key is shortening the downtube...and then adding a difuser. Yash, anybody else, what are your views? DizzyGuy
Well, with the QT, I'm thinking the larger bore per length of the downpipe accounting for some of the loudness
