Tangiers - how much heat should be used?

Recommended Posts

ok if im using quick light coals, i cant really break up like finger coals

so i have two options eitehr just plain on top on the tin foil or use one of those candle things that someone described in a dif post (i think that would distribute the heat)

will quick lite coals work fine, or do i have something to worry about?

i cant wait, just a few more days smile.gif

just did a bowl of nakla double apple with mint smile.gif

Much less than typically brands of tobacco.

I use natural finger coals, and I get a 3" chunk red hot. Then I break it into about 4 small pieces and place them evenly around my funnel bowl. Any more than that and it gets harsh. It's a very tempermental tobacco compared to what you're probably used to. Give it a shot, and check out some of the other numerous threads giving tips on how to sucuessfuly smoke Tangiers brand.

Once you get it down, you should get plenty of smoke and a very strong flavor.

*Edit* Quicklights should work fine also. Once they are fully lit, they are much easier to break into smaller pieces. Just stab them with a sharp poker, or even your tongs if they have a pointy edge.

For me when using QL's

I break them into half peices. Then use 3 1/2 peices in a triangular fashion.

For Jap coals

I break then off into squares and use 2 ful squares. I have heard people even break the squares down for better heat management, but I don't.

Then I place one square at 12 o'clock and one square at 6 o'clock. After a while I rotate them to 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Rotate as needed. After a while then your smoke starts getting thin throw on another square, and use the the two burned down coals on the oppisite side of the full square.

Thats what works best for me so far, I'm sure someone uses a different method that works well too.
