tuma al Zrai
Port Said! (samara wehli wa, duravus tilia yeen, it just stays in your head). Ok, Port Said is an old compilation of Mohamed El Bakar and his "oriental ensemble". It contains Port Said, Il Hamdillah, Banaat Iskanderia, all the good old Arabic stuff. its all classical Egyptian, no modern stuff. Greatest single cd ever. If not, Fairuz is practically God, and with good reason. Najwa isn't bad, but Elissa has a better voice. Nancy Ajram is good, too, but shes more plastic than flesh and blood. Amr Diab is ok, and Beirut Biloma and the REG project are good for new Arabic stuff (barely any vocals, though). The old stuff is more melow, good for sitting with a glass of shai and a pipe and pondering the mysteries of the universe. Oum Kalthoum is lisened too probably more than any other Arsabic artist, even Fairuz. She was given a bigger funeral than Anwar Sadat, thats how much people loved her. To100YearsToL8
The only one I get mellowed out with is Jimmy Page and Robert Plant "No Quarter" or "Unleaded" album. This is awsome tunes for smoking the machine from the first song, "Nobody's Fault But Mine" to the last "Kashmir." Most songs have Egyptian and Morrocan string bands backing them. Too cool for a Zep-head! MR Bubble
I love listening to Zeppelin while I smoke for the same reason. I'm ready to get some middle eastern stuff though, I went to the bar again last week and forgot how much the music helps the atmosphere. Now I just need to figure out where to begin...
