Covering the anise taste

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to reduce or cover up the taste of anise in shisha where it just seems out of place? I've tried a few more brands and flavors over the last week, and flavors like apple, blackberry, and a few others have heavy anise flavors that ruin the taste of the smoke. The only solution that I thought might help was acclimating it, but it didnt really help.

I know, the obvious answer is to not buy those specific flavors, which I wont, but I'm still left with a lot of leftovers that I'd rather not waste. So what do you guys think, are there any tricks to getting rid of the unwanted anise flavor?

um... double apple and licorice are about the only flavors with anise in them. it may be your hose which tastes like anise. if its washable give it a wash. that and give your hookah a good wash.

i dont know of any brand that puts anise in a blackberry or really anything other than double apple.

It might be your hose and not your tobacco as SS said. Also one mans trash is another mans treasure, you might be able to unload that tobacco in the trade section and get something you'd like more.

Nah my hose and hookah are clean, I'm kind of a neat freak when it comes to keeping my hookah clean. I recently washed out my hose (which is washable) because it had a red wine taste stuck to it from using it in the base a few times.

The blackberry was Layalina, and I'm pretty sure it was anise I was tasting.

Honestly I only wash my hose out every 5-6 sessions, because the taste doesnt bother me too much when it doesnt make the smoke nasty. I can smoke my other flavors fine without the anise taste.

And I am sure there is anise in layalina blackberry, but I could be mistaken, so maybe someone else can clarify.

I guess that is odd... Its possible I had a tad too much heat, but the shisha didnt taste burned at all.

But back to my main question, is there a way to cover up the taste of anise? I still got the taste from an apple flavor I have (the specific type of apple slips my mind, and I dont have my stash here).

Well...just to for the sake of explanation, I purposly burned a little of my Layalina Blackberry just now to see if I could get anise out of it...and nope, still no anise flavor for me. I picked the burnt pieces out and now have a totally normal delightful bowl going. No anise.

This bowl probably has another hour to its name, so if anyone has suggestions...

OPR: anise sticks to everything, vase, stem, bowl, hoses..everything. It can take seceral smokes to clear out of your hookah all together.

I have a speciial hose for strong flavours...like chocomint and 2 apples.Thats why i tend to avoid @ apples...

Some brands do add an anise flavor to flavors you'd think it doesn't belong. If you kind of like the flavor minus the anise, try mixing it with something else. My favorite mix for anything with anise is rose; double apple and rose is a great mix. But in the end, things with anise might just not be for you.

Anise is not water soluble, but it is alcohol soluble. You need to use dilute vodka or rum (10% booze, 90% water), use straight beer, or 10% rubbing alcohol 90% water to wash it out. Thats what I think. Vanilla is that way sometimes too.
