hookerman
I can't take any more carbon in my lungs, due to the coal not burning properly, the quick lighting charcoal not being done right, taking time to light up the natural coal. can't take it anymore, need something like electric that gives constant heat. Macho555
Well..the reason that there isnt one, is because it just doesn't work out. o_o;;; And if you dont want carbon in your lungs, why on earth do you smoke at all? Not to be an ass, but that point seems rather moot.

SanguineSolitude
well it definately could be done.. just one would need to spend the money to do it right. to be honest. the coal isnt whats gonna kill you, its gonna be the FREAKIN CARCINOGENS YOUR BREATHING IN. come on guy. but all that aside if they did make a good quality tobacco heater that worked id be on it. it would be nice to not have to deal with coals all the time. until then ill stick to coals. hookerman
I went to a local restaurant that serves hookahs as well, and saw a friend there smoking it. He offered it to me and i took couple puffs and man it was smooth. I went and bought the best hookah (mya bohemian), then got the best tobacco (al fakher golden) , got the 3 kings charcoal, and for some reason i can taste the charcoal, even though i let them get all white before i use them. where is that darn taste coming from? i even washed all parts of the hookah. i tried getting natural charcolas, but it was a pain to start them. please help me solve this nasty charcoal puzzle. Would it be possible to get the same taste as the hookah shop with my bohemian mya?

OBXSurfer
Tobacco contains all of the following as wellas many more chemicals:Acetone, Cyanide Aluminum DDT/Dieldrin Ammonia Ethenol Arsenic Formaldehyde Benzene Hydrogen cyanide Butane Lead Cadmium Methanol Carbon monoxide Nicotine Carbon dioxide Tar Chloroform Vinyl Chlorite -some of these are activated through absorption (i.e snuff, chewing tobacco, etc.) Others are activated through burning and extreme heat. The only way to get rid of some of the toxins is to vaporize the tobacco....this can be done in many different ways...you can make them using lightbulbs and wood and a collection tank, or buy them online...but this really defeats the purpose of hookah. As with any substance other than O2 (oxygen) entering your lungs everything isn't going to be peachy keep. But, there are ways to limit the amount of toxins you are taking in. DizzyGuy
There any people who are attempting to make electric hookahs, dude. It's just not readily available right now... but I know of some patent pending designs, haven't seen them in action though.
mushrat
Hookahman: yup, thats the one..actually, i think a few years ago it started aout as an electric heater and when it proved unreliable, flipped it over and made it a charcoal heater...

I believe those additives are only limited to cigarettes. Companies put those chemicals in the cigarettes to promote even burning give a better nicotine buzz. Though tobacco isnt all that healthy, shisha tobacco is safer than regular cigarettes and doesnt contain all the unwanted additives.

skiracerj1
if your gonna use 3 kings, light the coal then set it down and wait for it to turn entirely white before putting it on the hookah, that'll help a bunch i think, but the best thing would be to go with a japanese style coal or syrian style charcoal, but those take longer to light
LuxOR541
yeah definitely wait for the coal to be completely lit, but a bigger problem might be the way you are preparing the bowl. Are you packing the bowl, or are you sprinkling it in loosely? Are you using super heavy duty foil or just regular? are you filling the tobacco to the top, above the top, or just under the top? The burning carbon taste that people complain about doesn't usually come from a particular TYPE of coal or another, but from the coal actually burning the tobacco, rather than baking the bowl and evaporating the glycerine/molasses/honey etc. Try a little less tobacco packed loosely, filled about a MM or so under the rim, with regular standard weight foil, and start your coals toward the edge, and move them about every 15-20 minutes a quarter turn or so around the bowl. Heavy duty foil and screens seem to transfer more heat to the bowl, so for some brands they may work and some they may not depending on how much heat they require. I guess just try to keep the coal from actually coming in contact with the tobacco directly. Make Sure you stir the tobacco well before you load up the bowl so that you aren't using dry tobacco. I don't think your problem is with the hookah itself. I have an $89 Syrian That smokes about the best I've had, and I can't imagine that your MYA wouldn't be as good or better in that department. It will take a few sessions to whittle it down... set everything up the way you normally would, and only change one thing at a time. I suggest starting with the amount of tobacco in the bowl. EvansLight
I gotta say it might be your coal management. So many times its come down to just not working it properly, and getting a burnt taste.
