hookerman
is there a link between type of tobacco + clouds of smoke? which tobacco you consider premium with clouds of smoke? Thanks
Johnny_D
No. I get lots of smoke with Al Fakher. It's quite likely you need more heat. What sort of bowl do you use and how many coals? JD
PersianPride
big fluffy clouds is a trade mark of every al fakher flavour I have tried so yeah there might be a problem. Try breaking the charcoal up into three or four pieces instead of one mass
hookerman
Clean and wash my MYA Bohemian light up 2 quicklight 3 kings I have a china bowl with smooth glaze. The MYA bowl that came , i ended up not using it, since it does not have smooth surface. My china bowl has around 10-12 holes on the bottom of it. pack it lightly (sprinkle) the tobacco and cover with foil. Put holes all over the foil. Break each coal into 4 pieces , 2 coals, i end up with 8 peices. I put the coals on the top of foil. and start to smoke. I don't get no cloud of smoke, even after leaving it there. I am really stressed out now, since i went and bought the MYA bohemian thinking i get clouds. I get nothing but bad taste and no clouds. A regular cigarette gives more clouds than my setup. Anyone in OC want to show me how to do this ?

hookerman
only broke it into pieces so that there is charcoal all over the foil to spread the heat evenly.

cymptom
Sometimes my AF smokes TOO thick, the apricot in particular. Anyone ever have smoke that's TOO thick? So thick that you practically drown in it? Depending on the size of the bowl, I usually do either 2 or 3 halves of a Three Kings coal for AF. Calcartman
hookerman, i know, and with a lot of brands (like tangiers) that's not a bad thing, it may even work perfectly that way with AF, I've never tried it. But If you're not getting smoke, I'd suggest trying the solid coals to start with. If you're getting smoke and burn it, its a lot easier to tone down the heat until you get it right, than it is to start off with no smoke and wonder why. But I would definitely suggest more tobacco, generally I find thats the cause of poorly smoking bowls.

Hexagon
Maybe your hookah is broken (not air tight). Check that... Try to use some other tobbaco to make sure if it's a problem with your AlFakher or with the hookah/your setup.

skiracerj1
Check your seals and your hoses, its quite possible you have a leak, as for the bad taste, thats really odd, especially for a freshly cleaned and fairly new hookah, can you describe that bad taste a little more, is it kind of a funky taste or more of a burning taste? hookerman
it's like little smoke with burning taste. also , my hookah is not broke. when i assemble with the bowl on top, i suck on the hose and put my hand on the bowl, and i don't see any leaks anywhere, cause it sucks my hand into the bowl. 1) should the coals be in the center? 2) if yes, should i punch holes in the center only the size of a quarter, or around the edges? 3) if i use spacer so that the coal is sitting above tobacco about 1/4", is this a good thing? please help me bring back clouds.. SanguineSolitude
pack it fairly full but not tight. slap on a piece of foil. poke a bunch of holes all over. put 2 3kings on the edges of the bowl not in the middle. you dont want to put a coal on the middle. lilotaku
You got pics of your bowl Hookerman? maybe the diameter and deepness of the bowl? Try this out. 1.Grab your Mya bowl and pack it lightly by sprinkling in the AF. tap it down lightly if you need to. 2.When you put the foil on, let the tobacco be atleast a mm away from the foil. 3.Poke holes in the foil in a spiral pattern going from outside to inside. 4.Light up 1 3 kings and stick it in the middle and let it sit for 30 secs to warm up the bowl and then start taking pulls from the hose. Make sure the coal has a small coating of white ash on the outside before you put it on the bowl or else you'll get a bad taste. 5.Try using a windcover if you have one during the warming process to warm up the bowl faster. If the bowl starts hinting on harshness remove the windcover. Also be sure to move the coal around the bowl every few mins to get good heat distribution on the tobacco. SanguineSolitude
steps 2 and 3 dont make a difference in my experience. windcovers imo also arent neccessary.
spoolinspoon
hookerman. I'll send you a bowl of my AF and you do the same as your. I'll see if its your tobacco or not. You must be doing something wrong. you check your water level? The water should be about an inch to an inch and half from the bottem of the stem when the stem is connected to the base. You should really only need about 1.5 of the 3 kings coal in 33mm or 1 40mm 3K coal. The only thing I smoke is Al Fakher and Starbuzz and both smoke like a champ. PM me if you want to send me some of yours.
