Yeah, shit like this happens.  I sent a camera out to a friend who was in Peru for the summer, and goddamn UPS sent it to Canada.  CANADA.  By the time he got it, and the Peruvian authorities "examined" the contents of his package, it was literally in pieces.  We laugh about it now, but back then it was crap.

Wow...thats the best mail horror story ever.

Yeah, I mean, I can understand getting a ZIP wrong or even the mishap 18tea had happen, but damn. It was like UPS didn't know up from down. And then they wanted to charge me like $250 to pay for their mix up and the extra shipping. I was floored. I just could not understand how a company could screw something up SO BADLY. Must have been "bring your retarded pet monkey to work" day or something. Just thinking about it makes me twitch from sheer disbelief.

Yea shipping problems happen.

Scheetz, keep it easy man, no need to jump down his throat. I have posted stuff like that too, so have many members. No need to get all uppity about a concerned consumer, just asking our advice. Have a nice bowl and chill biggrin.gif

I called Hookahcompany last week, and they said it should be here on Dec. 5th, now its headed back to the shipper.
I called Fedex a few minutes ago, and they said it was the shippers request to send it back. The lady whom I spoke to said that Fedex goofed up, and they would refund me for shipping. I called Hookahcompany, but no one is picking up.... maybe they just went out to lunch, I'll hit them up in a bit again.

Im really mad and upset right now....

It's still not clear to me why you are so mad at hookahcompany... It seems they are just trying to get your package to you as quickly as possible after Fedex fucked up. Am I missing something?

That is just the way things work...

You buy something, you expect to have it in your possession at the time you were told you would have it by. Regardless of who’s fault it is, it all comes down to the original supplier. They picked Fed Ex as their main currier, and now they have a mad, package less customer on their hand.

Erica, I agree with you in part, but this is not mom and pop stuff; there are four major carriers, and they all perform about the same, and they all fuck up sometimes - there's really little in terms of responsibility on the part of hookahcompany for picking FedEx, the way I see it, assuming it really was FedEx who screwed up.

Either way, we can and should hold hookahcompany responsible for eventually getting us the products we order. But holding a company responsible is VERY different from being pissed at them. If hookahcompany really isn't lying, and the mistake was FedEx's, then being mad at hookahcompany defies all logic. Rather, the way I feel when things like this happens is that I will hold the supplier responsible for dealing with the shipping company and getting things worked out - but if I'm mad at anyone, it's the shipping company.

18tea, I think that hookahcompany is trying to get the package to you as soon as possible, and we shouldn't jump on them until we know that they did something wrong. I suspect that they are trying to get the package back to them as soon as possible to get it out to your correct location as soon as possible.

not true. Out of the 3 companies I deal with, UPS/Fedex/USPS (never delt with DHL) UPS out performs them all. Fedex tends to screw up the most, USPS needs better tracking but UPS is pretty good about getting stuff on time or ahead of schedule.

Thus I ship with UPS, plus they ship to 98% of the homes in the US. Thats right, I have numbers. They can reach over 80% of the world in less than 48 hours.

Ship with UPS, and you will be golden. I am not saying they don't screw up, but they do it less than the others.

I agree 100% that USPS needs a better tracking system, especially for their Priority Mail. However, I would say that the USPS Priority is better than FedEx, UPS and DHL when it comes to package speed, handling, and lost packages (or lack thereof). For any small-ish packages, under 6 or 8 pounds, Priority Mail is the way to go. 3 business days ANYWHERE in the Continental US, and they're not as rough on their packages as UPS... I do sutff on eBay as part of my job, shipping 30-40 packages a day. 99% of those go USPS Priority, and I probably only have 1 package every 5 or 6 weeks that gets lost. In the past year, I could count on 1 hand the number of damaged package claims I've had.

Also, don't ship Parcel Post with the USPS. Slowest delivery system EVER. I think they still use horses and the Pony Express. laugh.gif

Damn 18tea, you just can't get a break. I hate FedEx. I think out of everyone, they are the ones I've heard the most horror stories out of. USPS is my favorite so far, I always get my package quickly...UPS does a decent job, but I usually get a few banged up packages out of them. Oh well. Win some, lose some

Well, I'd call bullshit, but (a.) I don't know how much shipping you do, and (b.) I can't find a single good academic study on this, except for one that asked academics about their satisfaction, which is way too meta for me (incidentally, FedEX and UPS had similar satisfaction ratings). What I will say is that your numbers ("Thats right, I have numbers") are totally, completely, utterly useless without equivalent numbers for other carriers, not to mention that when shipping a package from here to the West Coast via ground shipping I couldn't give a damn how many countries they could get my package to in 48 hours (and you'd probably find that DHL will kick the ass of anyone else in terms of rapid international shipping, but that's moot).

Lol, I JUST recieved a package from FedEx...crushed flat. How they hell do they do this? All that was inside was a DVD and book, but if it was something important, I'd be screwed. I mean hell...even an "We're sorry for this packages state" note would be nice.

LOL at the parcel post. I can agree I think the Pony Express is still used for it. Took 10 days for an item to get to the other side of the country.

I do like USPS priority mail though. Also their 1 price shipping if you can get it in their box. Both are nice to use. I am still partial to UPS though.
