I understand that there have been alot of new members joining lately and thats great! But the number of threads talking about the same things(often created the same day) is getting ridiculous. There have been many good threads written on best brand, best flavors, best flavors per brand, etc. why not use the search and find them. that way you can see what people already think about it. does it not strike these posters that maybe, just maybe, someone asked the same question before they did?

We have two important and very very useful tools that answer both of these questions (best brand, flavors) and many more besides.
1. the first is the review section. heres how you use it. if you want to know how good Havana brand is... you look at all the reviews. if most of them are positive... its probably good. if most of them are negative... its probably bad. look for flavors you like in the brand. if they are all rated badly maybe its not the brand for you.
2. the second tool is the search function. if i want to see what people think is the best blackberry flavor.... maybe i should search for "best blackberry" or "blackberry review". i know it sounds crazy but if its about hookah its probably been discussed before.

it doesnt seem like im asking alot am i? i dont wanna sound like a dick. but its like if you're in class and people keep coming in and asking the same questions that everyone else has asked and the teacher answers them every freakin time. super annoying.

thanks guys. just my 2 cents. again not trying to be a dick.

p.s. this doesnt apply to genuinely neccessary threads like. "why wont my hookah work" i mean i suppose you could use the search and find the answers but i think most of us are ok with answering questions like that no matter how many times its been asked. thats because the person has a problem that might be different from other peoples problems and its hard to find the answer. Not searching for the type of thread listed above this is just pure laziness. thanks.

even though I'm new, I am somewhat inclined to agree. Throughout the last few years, I have been on several different forums about pretty much everything, and this is a problem that they all have. The only solution people really came up with was posting up FAQs and "sticky" topics. my $.02

I agree with Joseph, I sometimes have asked the question " Ok, im getting a brand of tobacco, what should i buy if im only gonna get one or two flavors?" The purpose of a forum is to help others with the knowledge you have on the subject. If we start being dicks to these people about tobacco flavors soon it will be about what type of hookahs, types of hookah accseriores and soon other topics, i have a fair amount of knowlegde when it comes to hookahs, and a knowledge about certain brands of tobacco and their following flavors, which i am glad to part on to the next eager minded person. That is, in some detail is why i joined this forum.

Yeah I definately understand. Unfortunately the 2 areas you point don't always have the information members are looking for. When the info requested is unavailable, no holding back and starting up some friendly conversations.

I'm rather new here and do my best to find what I'm looking for before I ask myself, but my observation is that these forums are busier than ever, or at least since I've been around which is a few months. While I understand your point, I think everyone around should be happy that the boards are getting some quality traffic and the community is growing. I've been around various boards including my own and I must say that the people here are great to deal with.

I started a best Watermelon brand topic a few days ago only after searching, so don't think the information is always available in previous threads. Also, sometimes people's answers are surrounded by other topics within threads that don't concentrate on the answer. There's no need to bump a thread from ages ago to discuss one of the many conversations within a thread.

I agree though, use search first... but let's be real the more information available, whether it's old or new posts, more results will show from using the search feature.

absolutely i agree when you cant find the info ask away.

and tobes. what is the purpose of asking what is the best brand? is it so that people answer. this is the best brand? if that is what you want... then why not add to a thread that already answers that? thats my only point.
the point of this forum is NOT to discuss ad nauseum what the best brand of tobacco is for a new hookah user. if you want input on a brand, if you want to know the best flavors for a brand, etc. then thats a good question. the blanket "ok im new whats good" is just really really overdone. i should have said use a search function to screen your question. if your question is "best blackberry" and you search and find a thread called "whats the best blackberry" maybe read that... and if you need more infor then make a thread.

im all for discussion... but not so much for a forum devoted to the same discussion again and again. i guess half my beef is with the new people coming, not reading the "READ THIS' section. and then posting things that already are up.

p.s. thanks for all saying im a dick guys. lol

i guess, i just dont see the big deal. New people should search and if they cant find it, then let them post something.

I just really dont understand, why you are getting so pissed bout this. Because if you see any topic thread like" what is the best Fumari" or "how is orange Nahkla" why dont you just NOT open the thread. does is really bug you that much to have to glance over the wording on the screen? I dont open every question like that but if the person is asking a about a specific flavor which i like, i try to share my experience so that they will have the same good time with the product that i had.

just to show my point. i did a quick search and came up with these questions all asking essentially the same thing. i have nothing against the posters. im just saying if you cant find all this info why not try. i didnt even include any best flavor ones. there tend to be more.

i love to share my experience with shisha... i also like it when people will read where we have all shared our experiences. i guess ive just been here long enough to realize this topic has been discussed to death. and the reason i read the threads is because i want to see what people think about the diff tobaccos. it just makes more sense to me to bump an old thread about best tobacco brand(which would already have many answers) and have people add to that.

sang: i understand..

All you have to do is what I do most of the time..I don't read the post....

I figure i've expressed my opinion often enough thats its out there to be found, but if soemone wants to ask, why not let them? not like we have limited spaces, plus with new people signing on every day, THEY may have never submitted a review and they might have soemthing to say on a flavour some of us have nevr said or heard...Plus it gives new people to express an expert opinion..their own, on something.

I've just started leaving the "whats a great flavour" "whats a great hookah"and "why cant I taste anything" posts to newer folks....

Besides, imagine how many times I'VE heard those questions....

Everyone voted that way... haha just messing man.. dont worry about it.. I agree with tobes and mush tho.. jus dont read those topics- i dont cuz i am sick of them too

Once again, I pretty much agree with mushy. Theres so many new posters, that those old posts pretty much don't mean much to people. Plus honestly, its a great thread to find people that share your sort of tastes, which will help you find more info by proxy. Another point is, with new brands of shisha and such coming out, people perspectives change. Continuly bumping an old thread would pretty much cause a jumble of outdate mush that no one would ever want to read. Look at those threads you searched for...you'd end up with a 12 page thread, all of it highly biased.

But isnt it also true that peoples ideals and tastes can change and perhaps what was liked whenever the posts you refer to were posted? And if it bothers you that people post it than dont respond to the post...but if someone feels like responding than let them. That is how I feel.

lol now you sound like me.

You have to understand something. 9/10ths of people in this world are pretty fucking ignorant. And thats an understatement. That said the "search" feature doesn't exist to them. Neither does the FAQ/ Review/ Rules thread that is posted. And this goes for pretty much every forum ever created. Nobody searches, now these people will bitch and moan like crazy in about 2 months telling newbies to search, even though they were the ones being bitched at a month ago for not using it themselves.

I guess we just need to hang on, cause shit hits the fan when 99/100 people are fucking ignorant.

It seems like there has been a sudden influx of new people. I know I am no veteran but the past couple of weeks, I have been kinda ignoring this forum because so much of it is new people that are clamoring to know what they should store their shisha in or if this deal on a [insert hookah here] is good. What happened to the interesting topics?

Well, once the new people get settled in, and smoking, THEN they will have interesting things to contribute. You can't add what you don't klnow...think about it. This whole thing is cyclical. Besides, who do you think I'm one of the oldest memebers here now? The rest read it all, said it all, and have moved on...

I may have too, but was made an Admin, so now I have something to DO wth the forum besides answer the same old questions...

So lets everyone be chill, and thats soemthing coming from me. Welcome the new folks, check in to the same old threads, JUST to make sure they are getting good sound advice or that the newer people aren't missing something, kick back and wait for something new to happen..This is a hookah forum, you don't have to rely on it for ALL your interesting reading/entertainment. laugh.gif

Also note, we have a lot of sub forums now, where once the main forum had EVERYTHING form Idea on packing your bowl to reviews to sometimes off topic chatting, now its all compartmentalized, so yu have to look around a little more. About all that's left FOR the main topic is whats there now....

Some of those threads get a lot of views and responses, so I'd think they are of interest to many on the forum. I have even run a couple of these threads and found the contributions from others to be very helpful. Still, I can see how some of the recent ones could be seen as irksome.

My pet peeve?

I don't suffer fools well either. For example, those whose contributions are written below the fifth grade level. Now, if English is not your first language, you have an excuse for mistakes in grammar, spelling and punctuation. You do your reputation a disservice, and show a and lack or respect for your readers by posting poorly worded copy.

I think a "conversational" style is fine here. Still, this is a written medium. Take advantage of that. Become a good writer. A correct, expressive and thoughtful post is a thing of beauty!

I guess I can agree with you. There do tend to be a lot of threads regarding that.

Here's the problems though:
1) Not all people are forum afficionados, I have probably 10,000+ posts distributed over half a dozen boards on the next, I know how to use everything from phpBB to IPB to vBulletin.
2) Some people have a slight variation in the question which they deem as enough to start a new thread.

ok..im guilty of the crappy spelling...and the crappy typing. I correct stuff when i notice it. But I've always been a "slow" speller and i do a 10 finger speed hunt and peck to type...so my typing isn't perfect...sew me.
